This is typical Red Sox Larry Lucchino-Theo Epstein-John Henry spin. Under their regime any player the Red Sox let go or trade has to be demonized for whatever reason. Johnny Damon. Pedro Martinez. Manny Ramirez. Nomar Garciaparra. And now Jason Bay. They weren’t going to bring back Bay because of his knees, huh? So I guess that it didn’t matter when Lackey has had arm troubles the past two seasons. And John Smoltz was coming off of arm surgery. And how about Tim Wakefield’s back? And what about Big Papi’s knee? And J.D. Drew’s back? How about Andria Betre’s shoulder’s? He couldn’t even left one of his hands over his shoulder’s last year, but they signed him. Those guys are all A-Okay, but the big stars who leave the Sox just suck and were traitors, hurt, and/or not worth the money. How come when a player leaves the Yankees, Dodgers, Rangers, Twins or some other team they aren’t demonized? If the Red Sox didn’t want to resign Jason Bay then don’t resign him and shutup. This is all spin, because they know Mike Cameron’s 20 HR, 70 RBI’s and .250 batting average is going to look ugly compared to Bay’s 36, 119, .276. So you make this spin up to cover your ass. I’ve never witnessed such a successful organization lie as much as the Red Sox do. Simply put almost everything out of their camp is propoganda. Wait until they don’t resign Josh Beckett next year. All you will hear about is his shoulder problems. Remember this when you hear that Beckett has turned down Boston’s under-the-market offer to him. This is obviously their plan. They’ve kind of become the Scott Boras of baseball teams. They make the Yankees look good!

I know that it is fun to bash Gammons for being a “homer”, but i believe that all he did here is report the facts. He did not say Bay will get injured. He did say the Red Sox were afraid that Bay would get injured. Bay, himself has confirmed this. These are facts. Living in New York state , I know quite a few Met fans , and you would never guese what the excuse for not competing is. “How can any team compete with so many injuries?” the Red Sox may be wrong, but there medical staff has a strong record on these sorts of things ,and as such it would be wise for the Red Sox to take their advice before, ponying up millions of dollars. It really does not matter how many others say that they are wrong. All that matters in the end is if they are wrong. We may have to wait four years to know for sure.

Enuff already.Remember Boston have just sign Lackey to a 5 year contract and if I not mistaken Lackey has had a history of arm problems in the past. That is why the Angels let him walk! Why doesnt Peter Gammons concentrate on that! Yea Gammons Lackey great pitcher with arm problems. Who signs him? The Red Sox now thats a story that Gammons should focus on not Bay and his the Mets.

Gammons is NOT a HOF reporter. He was HONORED by the Hall of Fame for his years in the game, but ESPN went out of their way to make that seem like he was actually inducted into the HOF by referring to him as a HOF reporter.

Guys ease up on Gammons, he always was a Sox homer. Gammons has not been the same since his health problem a few years ago. ESPN gently kicked him to the curb. The Red Sox need to give him a good seat in the press box and laptop without WiFi.

Hey do think the mets will have all the same injuries they did last year, because if u look at last season they were in first before the injuries. i think its obvious if any team goes from reyes castillo beltran wright delagado church murphy shneider to just castillo and wright plus ?????????? who knows, then they would have a bad season too, dont you think??? its all a bunch a met bashers bashing the mets again because somebody needs to be bashed on. case and point thanks.

I do have to agree with you on this one. However it is just typical of the beantowners. I don’t know how or when it started, however when I lived there some years ago, Gammons was at it then. They all seem to be small town homers when it comes to sports. A good bet is that they will blame “The Evil Empire” on anything that goes wrong with any of the sports in town. I remember when Parcells went there to coach. The writers all exclaimed “he is here to stay” just because he bought a house in the area to live in. They thought Parcells was going to leave New York for ever because he found paradise in Boston. It is a sickness, what can I say?

The funny thing is I don’t see anyone announcing the team they support, are they ashamed of rooting for a loser, again.
If his knee breaks down then it will be the Mets problem, why
would you care if they are not your team,, I’m sure your team has
some thing’s for you to spend your time on worrying about.
I saw the signing of Bay on SNY and said he doesn’t know where half that stuff is coming from and he didn’t respond because he
didn’t have the time to do so, that includes choosing Beirut over the Mets.

LOL, hey Peter, would you like to disclose how many calories Theo eats in a day as well? Jesus, does he even know other teams exist out of Boston? All his posts are the same, Boston is the smartest team EVER, every other team is well below them.
I’m still waiting for that Justin Smoak type prospect to be traded to the RedSox, Peter. Anyday now.

alright, I love bashing the mets as much the next guy but to be fair, they use the same orthopedist as the NY Giants and one of the best in the country. Also I forget who posted it but it was linked from Neyer’s blog I believe, which went through all this already and 3 different doctors, who weren’t the Red Sox team doctor, all saw nothing wrong with the MRI. This was done while negotiations were going on in June/July/August. So it’s not just the Mets “doctor” that said the knees were fine.

Unfortunately, it’s not “reading” the MRI that’s important. It’s all about the interpretation of what you read. Ask any English Literature teacher, they’ll tell you the same thing.
