The Cubs are building a new mega-suite

Feb 9, 2010, 10:33 AM EDT

The Cubs are consolidating the luxury suites down the left field line in Wrigley Field and are turning the space into something of a mega-suite. Season tickets will be able to be purchased individually at the price of $300 a game instead of in lots of 12-15 like normal luxury suites, but the service and all of that will still be luxury-suite quality.

Seems strange to me.  My take on luxury suites is that they are first and foremost a business and networking tool for companies. “Bring Gladys and the kids to the game, and we’ll discuss the big deal,” don’t you know.  Granted, baseball should never be watched in a suite and these sorts of people will be the first ones against the wall when the revolution comes, but I at least understand why they do it. Buying suite seats on an individual basis, on the other hand, just seems like a deeper kind of wrong.

    …and their 102-year slump continues…

I think they’re just anticipating that pretty soon this entire country is going to have the financial demographics of a banana republic like, say, Macondo (which last time I checked was still, despite its billions in dru…er, heh, international finance and trade dollars, was the poorest city in America per capita), consisting of a very few HAVES, all Republican, and an awful lot of have-nots (most of whom voted Republican and cried “how high?” every time Sarah Palin yelled “Jesus says jump!”). Ergo, fewer, bigger skyboxes. And since they can look directly into the rust belt from the top of the Burj…eh, Sears (or whatever they call it now) Tower, they get a better read on these things than we do down here in the tropics.

Unless, of course, you can read the tea leaves in the Feesh’s budget. But hell, if there were no lower-level Pachyderm factotums like Scrooge McLoria, who would decorate the walls of the mega-rich anyway? There’s already a rumor that Macondo Banana Massacre Field will have only one skybox for the Mas Canosas.
    .
As for the revolution, yep, we’re busy planning its next phase now. I’m going to give the fat cats one last chance to offer me pro bono mezzanine rail seats just off center to the right of home plate (you got it right – skyboxes suck for watching baseball) and save their asses when it comes time to line up against that courtyard wall.

I’d rather watch from home, than from Luxury suites. I laugh at the people bragging about their luxury suite tickets because they suck!! The only upside is hand delivered drinks and cool memorabilia to look at.

What will the Cubbies charge for those seats during the World Series?

    Willmose,
What’s the sound of one hand clapping?
