Pujols in Pinstripes?! Someone should be flogged for this

Feb 12, 2010, 9:20 AM EDT

This was one of the splash pictures over at the FOX baseball page this morning.  I expect Cardinals fan and FOX baseball columnist Dayn Perry to submit his resignation in protest by noon today.

Yep, I’m convinced. There’s no East Coast-bias in the media. Because obviously everyone has to play for the Yankees at some point in thier career.

  2. crotch_jenkins - Feb 12, 2010 at 9:31 AM

Now I have an erection. Thanks.

  3. Ron - Feb 12, 2010 at 9:35 AM

This isn’t even good reporting. The Yankees have Texiera signed up years at 1B, and have a bench of eventual full-time DH’s (Jeter, Rodriguez, Posada) who are all older than Pujols.
Who goes from that bunch? Or does Pujulos go back to 3B or LF?
Yeah, writing a story for the shear purpose of selling advertising when there is nothing to back it up. And journalists like to call other people out for ethics violations.

  4. JasonC23 - Feb 12, 2010 at 9:41 AM

Good to see FOX Sports carrying on the family tradition started by FOX News.

  5. willmose - Feb 12, 2010 at 9:50 AM

When did anyone believe anything that Fox “reported” in any area, sports, news, gossip, or the weather? To call the people working at Fox as ‘hoes would be paying them a compliment. Being ‘hoes would imply they do it for the money instead of being psychotic about it.
@Ron, trust me if Albert did go to the Yankees, they would find a spot for him. He’s the kind of player that makes a spot.

  6. Phil - Feb 12, 2010 at 9:52 AM

Ah, things must be too quiet on the Interwebs. Time to stir the pot between insecure Yankee fans for whom 27 World Championships is insufficient compensation on a cold winter’s day and Yankee haters who feel the Evil Empire has already bought the rights to the Second Coming. What fun!

  7. Cody - Feb 12, 2010 at 9:56 AM

Are you serious? The Yankees would make room for Pujols, he’s the greatest hitter of this generation, there’s no way the Yankees would ever pass up acquiring him.

  8. Phil - Feb 12, 2010 at 10:02 AM

    That didn’t take long.

  9. Ted - Feb 12, 2010 at 10:04 AM

The story’s title is “10 players who would look good in pinstripes?” WTF?!? Is this a local New York paper or website (go to check) Nope this is Fox sports! a national media outlet.
Wow, ok 10 players that would look good in the bird and the bat jersey:
    1) Joe Mauer
    2) Zach Greinke
    3) Tim Linecum
    4) Hanley
    5) Jeter (to play 3B because we are the Cards and can do what we want)
    6) CC
    7) Ichiro
    8) Lee
    9) Utley
    10) Matt Kemp
    1. Ichiro
    2. Hanley
    3. Pujols
    4. Mauer
    5. Holliday
    6. Utley
    7. Matt Kemp
    8. (Pitcher)
    9. Jeter
    Closer: Wainwright
What this is just a fantasy team? I’m sorry I thought this is just what people do in the media now a days

  10. Luke Fondleberg - Feb 12, 2010 at 10:05 AM

It makes me want to vomit in terror.

  11. Jonny5 - Feb 12, 2010 at 10:06 AM

I think I’m going to be sick now……..

  12. chris - Feb 12, 2010 at 10:07 AM

Well said, Ron. Next week the same article will be re-printed with the words “Red Sox” substituted for “Yankees”……

Dude, just chill, it’s a joke.If this is the way you react to a little humor you need to find something to relax you, baseball is
a game, it is not that important.Do you realize the player’s come to New York to play for the best, they are not kidnapped and brought to New York against their will and forced to play for free.
If you want to lure free agent’s to Kansas, your Royals have to win
    and change their losing culture.

  14. Jonny5 - Feb 12, 2010 at 10:13 AM

Just imagine his stats in NY…… they’d be astronomical. Excuse me, gonna be sick again…

  15. Old Gator - Feb 12, 2010 at 10:18 AM

You want to see how people react to a little humor? Watch what happens when I tell a Cuban driver in Macondo joke.
I’ll be in St. Louis in March for yet another wacky academic conference on pressing cultural matters. I’ll ask around the Central West End just after the bars close and see how folks feel about Pujols being made Borg. But don’t worry about me – I’ll be wearing Kevlar, a titanium jockstrap and a catcher’s mask.

  16. BC - Feb 12, 2010 at 10:38 AM

This may be the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen. The much more likely thing you’ll see… Prince Fielder in pinstripes. I’d bet my condo, car and cat on that one happening in the next couple years.

  17. Evan - Feb 12, 2010 at 10:42 AM

If I had a choice of any player in baseball to join the Yankees, it would be Joe Mauer. Pujols is great, but Mauer is in another stratosphere when compared to other catchers. Power-hitting first basemen are a dime a dozen.

moreflagsmorefun said this, “Do you realize the player’s come to New York to play for the best, they are not kidnapped and brought to New York against their will and forced to play for free.

A couple of issues here…(1) players come to NY because they pay the most because they have ridiculously more revenue than any other team. As a result of the profligate spending, they win. (2) You do realize that Pujols plays for the Cardinals not KC right? The Cardinals have a winning culture as evidenced by their 2nd most ever World Series titles and 6 Division crowns and 2 pennants in the last nine seasons.

  19. gumbercules - Feb 12, 2010 at 11:11 AM

Calcaterra, I’ll never forgive you for this. Did you have to embed the photo? Couldn’t you just have linked it with a NSFW warning? Blech!

  20. Mongo9459 - Feb 12, 2010 at 11:13 AM

Players go to the Yankees for one reason and one reason only, GREED! The Yankees are the only team that can pay 3 players a half a billion dollars. The other 29 teams are simply major league farm clubs for the Yankees. This fact if not changed will ultimately be the death of America’s pastime. What sane human being actually wants to pay to watch the Pirates play? What’s the point? Everyone know they are going to be losers year after year. And ANY players they develop with even a shred of talent will be traded away in a cost saving, if they are good enough, they may even make the Yankees. Until fans in the cities whose teams are not serious about competing boycott games completely, this will continue to spiral out of control. We, the fans, need to bring the sport to its knees, and then changes can be made to level the playing field for all teams. We do that by boycotting as many of the sorry teams as we can to end the revenue stream. When there are only 2-3 teams making money, change will have to happen.

  21. yankeeuniverse - Feb 12, 2010 at 11:33 AM

Its already a Done Deal!!! Pujols secretly met King George and his sons last month and George said he would pay $5MM more than the next highest bid whatever that may be for a 10 year deal. And Albert shook hands!!!!

  22. YANKEES1996 - Feb 12, 2010 at 11:40 AM

He looks good in the pinstripes, too bad we don’t need him.

  23. BudLight - Feb 12, 2010 at 12:07 PM

You people are funny. The article even says there is no way this happens, says the same thing with Mauer. Its a joke on how the Yankees try buy everyone.

  24. billybill - Feb 12, 2010 at 12:08 PM

    Tell that to Andy Hawkins.

  25. moreflagsmorefun - Feb 12, 2010 at 12:09 PM

I know Pujols plays for the Cardinals, you Royal fans kill me.I have a extra box of Kleenex for you to wipe your tears, maybe Ron
can hold you closely and caress you face ever so gently as you both
prepare for another losing season, at least you balme the Yankees, this will impress the fan base as well. The Yankees have double the Crads World Series wins, so what about them paying Holiday, oh, he is working for free. Please cry me a river.
