No doubt he's spent much of the offseason frequenting the fuku parlors in the Ginza, since he can afford blowfish fresh off the boat from Shimabara and have them flown up to Tokyo packed in dry ice, then after digging the saki and gutspots he'd be running downstairs to the baths and the Geishas. That'll get you into the best shape of your life, at least gonadatrophically speaking. And if you scarf a wee bit too much of the gland (which you really shouldn't if you've chosen your itamesan with care) and translate to the Akashic record in the arms of your bathing beauty, well, it'd be a lot like dying on acid at a Dead concert. Can't really lose either way.

Story #1 of at least several hundred that will be written this week on how “Player X” on “team Y” is in so much better shape this season. I’m sure when hitters report we’ll hear from the Boston papers how great a shape Big Papi and Varitek are in…yawn.
