So much for Josh Thole: starting catcher. Rosenthal:
The Mets are making “a hard push” for free-agent catcher Rod Barajas and negotiating with him on a one-year deal, according to major-league sources.
Little known fact: the name “Rod Barajas” is the California-ized version of “Bengie Molina.” Both roughly translate to “decent power, awful on-base skills.”
That said, if bringing in Barajas means that the chances of Omir Santos winning the starting job in a one-on-one competition with Thole are eliminated, it probably represents an improvement.

This is Barajas we’re talking about, right? How hard a push is necessary? He’ll represent about 1% of the payroll. It’s like me making a hard push to buy a bagel in the morning.

The Royals are always on the hunt for low-OBP types.

Jon Heyman tweets that the Mets offered Barajas a minor league, low dollar deal. How is that a “hard push”, Rosenthal?

Omar looking to sign another “never had it” player! Oh, come on now he would never do that!

Barajas and Blanco. Yeah, that’ll fill the seats. OTOH, it would give Omar one more Latino player on the roster, and that seems to be a higher priority in his world.
