Ryan Braun's "life theories"

Feb 26, 2010, 1:23 PM EDT

Braun headshot.jpgMLB.com’s Adam McCalvy sat down with Ryan Braun who, despite entering his fourth season in the majors, sounds like he’s firmly ensconced in his sophomore year:

“I’m really in the moment right now . . . I’ve learned to live in
the moment. The quote I’ve heard is, ‘Be where you are when you’re
there'” . . .It’s one of a
myriad of what Braun called “life theories” that he’s been batting
around. One came from none other than Mr. Beyonce Knowles, the rapper
Jay-Z.

“I’ve been quoting Jay-Z a lot lately,” Braun said. “He’s the ultimate
self-made man, and he’s the ultimate self-promoter. He’s all positive.
He said, ‘The truth needs no explanation.’ I think that’s deep.”

Not as deep as “Many chicks wanna put Jigga fist in cuffs/ Divorce him and split his bucks” but if you’re looking for a philosophy in life you can probably do worse than Jay-Z.

Ryan Braun used to run base like Juan Pierre. Now he runs bass, hi hat and snare.

Is he an illegitimate child of Shirley McClaine by any chance?

The wikipedia entry gives a clue as to Braun’s intellectual prowess:
He chose Miami for its academics, its athletics, and its social scene, noting: “I think the girls were the deal closer on the recruiting trip.”

As a Brewers fan, watching Braun play baseball fills me with joy. As a human being, listening to him talk or reading his quotes is almost physically painful. It’s not so much that he comes across as stupid, but that he seems to believe he’s really smart.

Braun has pretty thick skin. I “observed” quite a few a-wipes heckling him very badly while playing in Philly. Apparently they brought a Braun Jersey for a friend to have him sign and he wouldn’t do it. Boy were they rough…. Anyway after they were threatened with immediate ejection they shut up. Even the most rowdy folks don’t want to give up 4th row behind the opposition dugout seats. After reading why he went to Miami though… Maybe they were right in screaming how much of a douche bag he is????

What’s so odd about abstracting your philosophy from a hip hop…er…tune? Song? Eh…still don’t know what to call that shit, frankly; auditory horsemeat and velveeta sandwich, maybe? Naahhh, the sandwich still forms more neural plaque. Anyway, philosophy is where you find it. I got all the philosophy I’ve ever needed at six years old in the Strand Theater on Mott Avenue in Far Rockaway, New York, from Godzilla, King of the Monsters, when Lieutenant Ogata says to Dr. Serizawa, “You have your fear, which might become reality, and you have Godzilla, which is reality.” Ryan Braun really ought to watch it now that it’s available on a digitally remastered wide screen HD edition. It’s got some great music too – played on musical instruments, for a change.
