I happened to be listening to Michael Kay’s radio show the other day, where he brought up this article by Raissman. During his monologue, Kay categorically denied that Yankee brass told him to say anything on YES in re: A-Rod. He simply said that the story was incorrect. He didn’t go out of his way to bash Bob Raissman, which I thought he had a bit of a right to, the way that Raissman goes on about YES. He just simply stated that the story was not true. He also mentioned the fact that YES hired Jack Curry to do baseball reporting for them, and he is usually looked on favorably as a pretty good reporter, and that anyone would be hard-pressed to say that Curry would be schilling for the Yanks.

Raissman works for a dying medium and knows it. He hates everything about the re-ordereed world of team owned stations, blogs, podcasts, online chat rooms, etc.
He spends most of his time attacking these institutions rather than joining for the ride. I pay no attention to anything he writes.

Just to piggy back–Al Jazeera is based in Qatar, whose government is pretty consistantly pro-west. Raissman’s pun obviously is aimed at the fact that Al Jazeera is the outlet that has aired tapes from terrorist organizations and assumed (a) that Al Jazeera supports those statements and (b) so does the government of Qatar–and is wrong on both counts.

Um….Al Jazeera is NOT state owned and constantly expresses views that are not the “company line” of any Arab country. In actuality, it is probably a much less biased and truth-based news organization than most in the US.
….but hey, why let a little something like facts get in the way of a horrible pun when you can have a pun that is both horrible and inaccurate. Nice work Raissman.

Listening to Raissman about anything Yankees is a complete waste of time I don’t think there is an objective bone his body. The mere fact that his name is on the byline is an excellent reason to ignore the paper completely. Just another Yankee hating journalist throwing rocks at the glass trophy case. Afterall it isn’t baseball season unless we have a reason to hate on or persecute A-Rod, right Bob!

The problem with YES isn’t so much that they “coddle” the Yankees, it’s that Michael Kay is one of the worst TV announcers (short of Chip Carey) around. He was exciting on the radio, because we couldn’t see how often he was wrong.
It’s a deep fly ball to center, going back, it could be… caught (20 ft short of the track).
Goodness gracious.

You are precisely correct on Raissman, he HATES anything Yankees (just like Lupica). He also hates “Ma and Pa Pinstripe” on the radio, even though CBS hasn’t owned the team in 37 years.

Raissman spends 90% of his articles bitching about how the YES Network is, as you described DJ, “state-run” television. He constantly refers to YES as Al-Yankazzera, a stupid pun based on the state-run media of Islamic countries.
I prefer impartiality myself, and I don’t like “homer” announcers like Kay either, but damn, the team owns the network, so what does Raissman expect? He seems to have a serious problem with the team owned network always spinning a positive angle on the team. There are a million other outlets to get your unbiased Yankee info if you don’t like YES.
The funny thing is that Raissman is a “sports media critic” working for the NY Daily News, home to the absolute worst writer on the planet, Mike Lupica. But Raissman never takes a shot at Lupica (that’d be like shooting fish in a barrel), so perhaps he’s under an edict from above. You know, the same thing he bitches about with the YES network. Then again, maybe as a sports media critic, Raissman leaves Lupica alone because Lupica doesn’t know a fucking thing about sports.
