Body language says a lot. I've been watching this kid for two years now and Miller has undeniably great stuff but the moment he gets in a jam the wheels, as you put it, come off. He behaves as if he's been conditioned by now to expect to be solved. Injury? Well, that's always possible. The press will rip you for not playing hurt and they will rip you for playing hurt and not telling anyone. Tell someone and don't play and they'll rip you for not playing hurt. Ad infinitum. But I'll go with my initial instincts; I don't have spider sense but I do have crotalid labial pits and they enable me to smell fear in the dark. This kid was brought up way too quickly, and even with those bargain basement coaches you spoke of (the lowest scoring ones usually wind up at third base - watch the Feesh third basemen remind them to go back to the dugout) it was clearly budgetary policy that sacrificed that kid to Moloch.

I come today to argue with Mr. Alligator, evidently. It’s something else with Andrew Miller – my spider senses are telling me that he’s injured. He was a better than average MLB pitcher last season from opening day until June 27th. Then the wheels fell off. To me this doesn’t speak to an organizational issue.
It still may be argued of course that he was mishandled and that the Feesh are operated by a bunch of low-rent con artists with severely neurally challenged bargain basement coaches. I won’t argue any of that.

Maybin looks like he sustained a minor groin pull and was walking OK a few minutes after they took him out of the lineup. He’ll be OK.

What’s not OK, though, is that one-time nino de oro Andrew Miller got shelled, which, though it’s still early in the spring, confirms for me what I’ve thought the last couple of years: that the Feesh have destroyed a kid who was once their best pitching prospect by bringing him up to the majors when he was not nearly ready for it and letting him have his confidence destroyed in beating after beating they let him sustain. I know that Fat Freddy is often complemented by the institutionalized sports press for getting the most out of skinflint Loria’s trickle of a budget, but frankly his – and the organization’s – handling of this kid has been horrendous. They seemed to hope that if they pushed him and shut their eyes to his inexperience and disorientation, his talent would blossom somehow and validate their philosophy that you can win on a piker’s payroll because the lwas will intercede for you again like they did before.

Fecalspeak. If this kid has a future anywhere, it isn’t going to be here in Macondo. Time to let him have a change of scene, see what you can get for him, and wish him well in the hands of some pitching coach and organization that knows what the hell it’s doing with him.
