Ozzie Guillen isn't much of a Sean Penn fan

Mar 12, 2010, 5:02 PM EDT

In case you had any doubts about just how much entertainment value the White Sox have cost the world by blocking Ozzie Guillen from creating his own website, here are his latest couple posts on Twitter today:

Oh my god seam penn defended ours president hugo chavez thas easy when you no leave in venezuela and have money lol is a joke shame on you mr penn

Oh god you are very crazy go and move to our country you will change you mind

Apparently he’s referring to this story. And now Guillen is up to 37,193 followers in three weeks.

He’s 100% right. It is utterly senseless to defend a president under whom you do not live, for no other reason than he is a socialist. It is total ignorance. It’s amazing. People think that, just because they are rich, they get to impose their opinions on the rest of us poor folk.

What a bunch of genuises you commenters are. Jeoy B, do you think Chavez is more popular among the rich of Venezuela, or the poor? Do you think Ozzie G is rich or poor?

  4. David C - Mar 12, 2010 at 6:54 PM

David you are the ignorant one. No freedom of the press, nationalizing of commerce, murder rate and power outages affect rich and poor in that country. Chavez should be a cellmate of Noriega.

Couldn’t agree with you more David C. Several of my drivers are from Venezuela, and are not at all wealthy. Still, they despise Chavez for exactly the reasons you outline. It is not just about wealth, but how the citizens are denied any civil rights, due process or any services we have come to expect like adequate police protection. The nationalization of commerce has turned it into a quasi-communtist country.
Good for Ozzie! If he keeps this up I may have to become a White Sox fan.

As a card-carrying ACLU member and life long democrat, let me be the first to say that Sean Penn and his other very small group of extremist hollywood actor types do not speak nor in any way represent the views of the democratic party and its members.

So EVERYONE in Venezuela hates Chavez? Funny how he wins elections that are certified as fair by international observers.

You’re amazed by how few U.S. media outlets are owned by poor folk, right?

Thanks for adding that. I was going to add something similar. Being a NYer, I have a fair amount of liberal friends. Fortunately, they are the thinking kind, the kind that come to their own opinions instead of taking their talking notes directly from the liberal website. There is nothing worse than the far-right and far-left who refuse to carry any opinion contrary to the party propaganda.

I am one of those venezuelan folks that had to go to another country to porsuit hapiness.
Im pretty sure that Sean Penn does not know that the Venezuela’s overall per capita murder rate is cited as one of the top five in the world
I also beleive that Sean does not have any idea that our hospitals are falling appart while Chavez spents millons of dollars buying weapons to russian folks.
For those ignorants that beleive that Chavez is some sort of robin hood that helps poor people, believe me when I say that’s NOT true. He gave a way some couple of dollars to them without investing in education (among others priorities)basically meaning that he is not changing the destiny of any poor people.

Does EVERYONE in Vzla hate chavez? its hard to say for 2 main reasons. The first one is that he is not educating people, so many of them think they are ok in the way they are living, secondly: elections are not transparent.
However it is pretty clear that for all of us that beleive in human rights, beleive in the freedom of speech and understand that our country’s electricity issues are not caused by a natural phenomena but due to the fact that this corruptive goverment is not capable of doing anything good the answer is simple: we do hate Chavez
