The value of Bonilla’s deferred payments at an 8% interest rate is $5.9M, what the Mets owed him when they released him. If the Wilpons average more than an 8% return on their money from 2000-35, they will make a profit. This was a business decision and not an unreasonable one at the time.

How do you figure that? What did Bobby ever do or say that was even remotely in the same league as the drivel that Manny routinely expectorates? Bobby got skewered in the Big Cesspool for no particular reason other than that he had once mentioned how happy he was to be there. Mis-take. He spent the next couple of years trying way too hard to show the Gotham hacks they were wrong about him. Mis-take. Then he came down here and played his ass off and helped drive the Feesh past the Native Americans (history kinda repeats itself) in 1997 and we still love him for it down here. If you heard BBs rattling in a pig's ass, chances are that's because your head was up there. . And if you're going to extenuate your metaphors like that, do it meaningfully, even if obscurely. I give lessons, of course, but I somehow doubt if you could afford them.

I wonder if Santana was referring solely to the fact that Bonilla was distributing the checks, or if he’s assimilated his Mutts history well and knows about the Roger Maris Light treatment the ambulatory rectums of the New York press afforded Bobby during his short unhappy tenure in the Wormy Apple.

Well, I can tell you one thing – even the New York press won’t be able to wipe that grin off his face now. Like the song says, you don’t get me, I’m part of the union.

And I can tell you something else: I’m glad, in a way, that they made his life so uncomfortable up there, so that eventually he could find his way down to Macondo and be one of the sparkplugs of the Feesh’s 1997 Series victory.
