Rangers: we weren't blackmailed

Mar 18, 2010, 2:45 PM EDT

Randy Galloway of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said the Rangers were blackmailed over the Ron Washington stuff.  The Rangers say it’s not so.

As related by Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning news, today Jon Daniels denied that a former Rangers employee ever tried to use knowledge of Ron
Washington’s drug test as leverage to improve a severance package or
get a recommendation for future employment, denied that the club ever felt extorted or blackmailed, and said that the police were never contacted.  Now, those questions were put to Daniels via email using basically that language, so it’s possible that the behavior described there doesn’t cover what Galloway was working off, but for that to be the case, Daniels would have to be engaging in some pretty lawyerly language-parsing.

So it looks like it’s Galloway’s move. He’s either got to explain his blackmail story further or else he owes an apology — at least — to Jon Heyman’s source for claiming that he was engaged in criminal activity.

I can reasonably assume that if there was blackmailing involved, a signed photograph with Nolan Ryan was not one of the demands.

Wait. I thought Scott Boras was Heyman’s only source.

Great, the failed ‘War on Drugs’ continues to churn out additional losses of American lives. What a disaster. Banning substances only makes them more profitable. We’ve proven over the last 70 years that we CANNOT succeed at prohibuting alcohol, cocaine, or other drugs.
Instead of making us pay for three hots and a cot because someone used a substance (which doesn’t help them OR us) perhaps we should just start HELPING people break addictions? Since sending them to jail only makes them better criminals anyway. Our prison system does NOT reform, it only punishes.

No wonder Rudy Jaramillo left the Rangers!

This is par for the course.
New revelations from Ron Washington’s past….what happened to yesterday’s quote the vaunted ‘…I only did it once…’ defense?
Now we discover he smoked grass and popped speed, as a player…we assume only ‘once’.
He then (we are to believe) he took 15 years off …for some reason…then decided out of the blue to start up again…this time with the ‘good” stuff.
I don’t blame him …he had nothing to lose…he is only a major league manager, knocking down 6 figures..
Maybe he already knew his team would ignore this “little” indiscretion, just like they did when he was a player.
The whole Ranger’s organization is a disgrace to Baseball, the fans…and especially to all the young fans of the game..
What’s the old saying about taking folks out of the ghetto is easy, but you can’t take the ghetto out of them….seems to ring true here.
