Lee undergoes platelet-rich plasma injection

Mar 27, 2010, 6:33 PM EDT

According to Gregg Bell of the Associated Press, Mariners left-hander Cliff Lee underwent platelet-rich plasma
injection therapy on his injured abdomen in Seattle this weekend.

The procedure has been successful in helping athletes recover from ailments like tennis elbow and hamstring strains, but using it to help heal abdominal strains is mostly unheard of.  Lee underwent a similar kind of therapy when first diagnosed with the injury, though, so it’s not like the M’s are traveling down an unfamiliar road.

The 31-year-old southpaw went 14-13 with a 3.22 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP last season for the Indians and Phillies.  He’s doubtful for the start of the regular season, but should be pitching in a Seattle uniform by the end of April.

So many of these “treatments” seem so unnatural (borederline PED).

So….a physiology enhancing platelet treatment is okay (though it is probably illegal to administer without a doctor’s approval, similar to steroids), but a physiology enhancing anabolic steroid is not okay….where is that line again?

I’ve seen this before, Cheese steak withdraw. He’s moody, throwing balls at guys heads, foot problems, and now this, it’s Text book Cheese steak withdraw. He needs to get some Philly steaks flown to him on a daily basis to get back into shape like he was last season. It lubricates the body’s muscles, Joints, and ligaments plus all the bovine growth hormones found in beef today make for a special concoction to revitalize. Look at the evidence, Jamie Moyer. Need I say more? Pedro gave it a shot, but it scared him, He thinks his soul is going to be gobbled up by some Voodoo curse from the Cow God. Rumor has it, he mumbling something about “stealing power from the Cow god will need to be repayed in the afterlife. And no one wants to owe anything to the Cow god in the afterlife, trust me.” Then he was gone.
