Braves phenom Jason Heyward homers in first at-bat

Apr 5, 2010, 7:41 PM EDT

heyward rounding bases.jpgI figured Craig would be all over this one, but in case you missed it, 20-year-old Jason Heyward homered off Carlos Zambrano in his first major league at-bat Monday.
The majestic three-run shot put the Braves up 6-3 in the first inning, and Atlanta went on to 16-5 in a rout. Howard, who started in right field and hit seventh, also had an RBI single in his five at-bats.
Heyward was the sixth Atlanta Brave to homer in his first at-bat. The last was Jordan Schafer, who had a second-inning homer off Brett Myers in his debut on Opening Day 2009.

I had little confidence in my ability to be even remotely objective without a few hours to let it sink in.

Translation: “I couldn’t type around my chubby.”
    Thank you very much.

    Well, there’s that too.

I am a psychotic Mets fan, and I love this guy. He is on all three of my fantasy teams and my two year old daughter knows his name.

Is it too early to grab a #22 jersey?

Is it too early for a plaque?

    That… well… That’s pretty spectacular.
I, too, expected Craig to be all over it – When I first heard it had happened (thanks, Fangraphs live chat!), I came here to hear Craigs words of wisdom *cough* on the matter and was… disappointed.

Craig wouldn’t have called him Howard in the second paragraph :)

Replica RoY plaques Craig, I’m telling you. Then you can finally move the family out of mom’s basement!
