ESPN’s Gordon Edes reports that the Red Sox and Josh Beckett are in the final stages of negotiations over the four-year, $70.5 million deal that was first reported last week.
I’m assuming his poor command and lifeless fastball from last night has no bearing on the deal.

Of course his “poor command and lifeless fastball from last night” has a bearing on the deal. It means Josh Beckett really really wants to get this done before his next start.

You’re right about that. I hope he shows more promise against the lesser teams… We need at least two lights out pitchers, preferably 3 or even 4 with the current lineup to keep with those pennant buying yankees….
