David Ortiz is 0 for 7 and he doesn't want to hear bleep about it

Apr 7, 2010, 8:28 AM EDT

David Ortiz after last night’s game:

“(Bleep) happens. Then you guys talk (bleep). Two (bleeping) games already. (Bleepers)
are going crazy. What’s up with that, man? (Bleep). There’s (bleeping)
160 games left. Y’all (bleepers) go ahead and hit for me.”

I’m with Papi on this one. Two games is way, way too early to start in with this business. But start in the Boston media has, with story after story after story about Ortiz’s slow start, written with an apparent ignorance of the fact that, yeah, on occasion, guys go 0 for 7.

I mean sure, everyone will be and probably should be paying close attention to Ortiz’s start given what happened last year, but why not wait, oh, a week before the hand-wringing?

“I’m taking “never” in the pool for the Red Sox designating Papi for assignment.”
Ever the optimist huh? If, it’s July 15th I’m taking the under.
“Sitting him for Lowell against Pettitte wouldn’t be wise,… Papi has a .982 career OPS against Pettitte. My memories are of Papi owning him, so I went and checked.”
Yeah but this is the post milk shake era.
“There are also a variety of ways to get both Lowell and Ortiz, ..”
Yeah but none that don’t include moving a very good defensive, excellent hitting 1B to a position that he not as good at, .. And LF, .. that’s just crazy talk.
“They can put Lowell at 1st and move Youk to 3rd for a game and sit Beltre,”
Beltre is hitting the ball hard, so now isn’t the time to sit him.
In fact, they could go with this lineup:
Bill Hall 2B……….. Why sit Pedroia?
Mike Lowell 1B……… And, move one of the better 1B?
Papi DH……………. He should be rested tonight. It’s a long season, maybe not for him but you never know.
Youk LF (c’mon humor me – he did it once)… Yeah I was at the Stadium for that game. it wasn’t pretty. I actually gain a lot of respect for Youkillis because of it. He’ll apparently do anything asked of him.
Varitek C………….. Capt Bench Warmer, .. Really? I wish they’d play him. Francona may be loyal to a fault but he’s not stupid. Besides Martinez is scorching the ball right now, no way Varitek sees the field before the weekend.
The easy answer is sit Ortiz to keep Capt Bench Warmer company and put the best offense out there.
