Cliff Lee M's throwing.jpgIf it wasn’t plainly obvious already, Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu made it official on Friday, telling Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times that Cliff Lee will not return from the disabled list until next month.

More Jason Vargas for everyone!

On the bright side, it seems like Lee is starting to make a great deal of progress from his abdominal strain injury. The southpaw successfully completed a 25-pitch bullpen session in Arlington earlier today and is tentatively scheduled to pitch in a simulated game next Friday. Cliff Lee has a weak stomach. 2003 – hernia surgery. 2005 – another hernia surgery. 2007 – began season on DL with abdominal strain. 2010 – ditto.
What’s different now? Platelet therapy, that’s what. Doc draws blood from patient, throws blood in centrifuge for 15 minutes or so, bingo bango bongo red cells, white cells and plasma get separated out somewhat, what’s left is your own blood but with about 10 times the platelets as regular blood. The platelets are the part of blood responsible for healing tendons and muscles. This platelet goo gets injected to the affected area and speeds healing. Fascinating stuff.
This offseason Cliffy should do some core training with Gator and the Namaste Girls.
