Javier vazquez is a prime example of a piece of shit pitcher that can only succeed in the joke that is the NL. I wouldn’t even go as far as to trust him with a bp role. I’m hoping he either gets traded for a bag of balls with a bat boy or just send his sorry ass down to Scranton. He’s the most frustrating pitcher to watch and doesn’t have the gut to cut it in NY. Should have just kept someone like Gaudin to replace him with.
I honestly don’t see him lasting all season here. Or maybe I’m just hoping something happens to where the team won’t have to
carry his sorry ass all year. It’s just frustrating watching your 5th starter out pitch your 4th every game so far.

I was there and he was shelled. So while it might have been classless, it wasn’t clueless. I booed, but then I’m a RS fan. Still, I can understand the fans’ frustration.

thats crap, vazquez was one of the best strikeout pitchers in the league for two years and now that he does “average” for the yanks after two game he gets booed is crap. he’s a great pitcher and just needs to adjust to a new environment. being a braves fan i would much rather have him then melky

Craig, I'm as a big a Yankee fan as they come, and not only is booing Vazquez ridiculous, but a good number of the folks buying tickets to Yankee games thus far in this young season clearly aren't die-hards and are giving the rest of us a bad name. Case in point, I attended the game last night, and much to my complete and utter horror, somehow a wave got started around the 5th inning. Now obviously no self-respecting Yankee fan would ever participate in such amateurish garbage, and the fact that it even made it around the Stadium one time was disgraceful. I did my best to yell at everyone in my section, even putting my arms up in an attempt to "stop" it, but incredibly no one seemed to care. Inanity like pointless, spoiled booing and the wave breaking out are making the rest of us Yankee fans look terrible.

Craig – Then the people you follow on Twitter were either at a different game, or I just happened to be in a polite section. Rather, what I think is at play here is a lot of people seeking to fill in the blank with a preconceived notion: Vazquez will have a difficult time in the Bronx because he and Yankee fans wont be able to forget 2004. Of course, that’s nonsense. Unless the player is an established star, he is going to be met with some negative response when he performs poorly. That’s what happened to Vazquez. He wasn’t lustily booed at any point.

Craig, I was there. I know what happened. Quite frankly, that the News and Post would try to create headlines with the “booing” angle should surprise you. Your opinion was a strong one, so I would have thought you’d base it on a firsthand experience.
What happened is a small portion of the crowd casually booed a pitcher who didn’t do well. The scribes then claim he was “lustily booed” and then run to the player for a reaction. Instant headline.

Of course this author of this article doesn’t state the fact correctly that Vasquez gave up 4 earned runs, not 3 as he wrote, but 4 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched.
One would think the author of this silly article would at least be factual.
That is horrible pitching…..and a poor article.

Craig couldn't be more off base with this post. While Yankees fan deserved criticism for how they treated Arod, the crowd reaction to Vazquez was indifferent at worst. I was at the game yesterday and it wouldn't have occurred to be that he was booed if this post hadn't suggested as much. As a White Sox fan who suffered through several of Javier Vazquez’s starts, I can understant the Yankees’s fans wrath. Talk about gutless? Ozzie Guillen was dead-on about this guys. When nothing is on the line, he can pitch like Cy Young. When something, anything, is on line, he folds like a house of cards. He has wonderful, tantalizing talent and several teams have fallen in love with the talent in the pas. Wonder why he has pitched for so many teams? Wonder why the Braves dumped him after just one year when he had success in an Atlanta uniform? Vazquez is the type of pitcher who can cost managers and general managers their jobs and fans a lot of sleepless nights! I applaud Yankee fans!

they boo big papi because he has been terrible for a long time now, and because he wasn’t even really good, he just took steroids. yankee fans should def give javier some time, it’s tough pitching at yankee stadium. and as good a season as he had last year, i doubt him pitching anything near how he was before coming back to the bronx. and the boos certainly aren’t going to help him pitch any better

I’m not defending the booing, but he has to give them reason to cheer him. I’m hoping for him to come around , but it is a tough crowd. He did better this start , compared to his first start. The fans went through it with him the first time , then you add the beaten Pavano gave them , and they have never been known to be patient. I say give him at least five more starts , and if things don’t start to change, then make a move. As I understand it , he’s a free agent at the end of the year , so you don’t have to bring him back . Give him a little more time.

There’s a big difference between Hamels and Vazquez, though. Hamels was the World Series MVP when the Phils won the whole thing for the first time in 28 years; it’s natural to expect that he’d get some slack. Vazquez is the guy who gave up a grand slam to Johnny Damon on his first pitch in the clinching game of the most embarrassing postseason loss in Yankees history. If he stinks up the joint from the get-go in his return, I can kind of understand why he was booed; I wouldn’t have done so, personally, but I get it.

I’m not a big fan of bringing successful NL pitchers to the AL to face superior hitting. Two starts for Vasquez so far and poor results. He just has no pop or movement, he’s throws a flat ball that hitters are all over. He only gave up a few runs, but he could have given up a lot more, he wasn’t effective at all.
I think the boo-ing was to let JV know that losing is unacceptable and he needs to really right his ship. Vasquez might be in the BP sooner rather than later pitching like this. Its very alarming and worrysome for Bomber fans.

Are you kidding me – of course we booed Vasquez!! It is what we do, it is who we are. You should not be writing a baseball blog and holding yourself out as some kind of expert, you are pathetic.
1) Yankee fans don’t care what anyone thinks of them.
2) If you are not a Yankee fan you cannot relate to us, so STFU!
3) If and when Vasquez does succeed we will embrace him like no other city, no other fan base does. That is the faustian bargain that players buy in to when they come here. You don’t just get to be a Yankee because you put on the uniform – you get to be a Yankee when you prove yourself worthy. That is the way it is when you are talking about the greatest sports franchise in all of sports history.
4) If you you were a Yankee I’d boo the crap out of you too. Cause you suck!
