Pic of the day: I got a hundred dollar bill, y'all

Apr 16, 2010, 5:45 PM EDT

This one comes from @leokitty, Yankees season ticket holder and keen observer of humanity. Yesterday she witnessed a man at Yankee Stadium paying for a box of Cracker Jack with a $100 bill:

Yankees fan cracker jack.jpgI was going to make some comment about the hoity toity fans at Yankee Stadium, but then it occurred to me that the Steinbrenners just might charge $69.95 or something for Cracker Jack, making the Benjamin necessary.

Whatever it is: Boooooooooo!

Ok.. If everyone just takes off the “Yankee-Hating Glasses of Presumption” for 2 seconds and actually looks at the picture, you’d notice that he has a lot of bills in his hand.. The vendor is also counting out change, which probably means the guys has already paid. Just because he is holding a $100 bill doesn’t mean he is using it to pay. Thanks leokitty. You’re not a keen observer of humanity. You’re a douche.
    CAPTCHA: situation fungal.. Yeah, exactly.

Maybe he was stocking up for the next four hours.
Or perhaps he was being generous and buying Cracker Jacks for everyone. The fans, however, are on their own for peanuts.

And just think, this is the 200 level. Not even in the lowerbowl.

  4. Oscar - Apr 16, 2010 at 6:08 PM

That would be perfect if it was in the box seats, but he’s in a $10 left field bleachers seat — a bargain in any ballpark.

To paraphrase the great Canadian power-pop band Sloan, “It’s not the team I hate, it’s their fans”. Okay, that’s not true, I hate the team as well…

  6. ctm - Apr 16, 2010 at 6:32 PM

Yankees fans can’t BEGIN to understand what it’s like to be a fan of another team… unless they figure out how to steal our presumption glasses.

If you’re not someone who blindly hates everything remotely associated with the Yankees, then YOU CAN’T RELATE TO US, so STFU!

C-notes are the new fives around here. Don’t leave home without them! Notice how the vendor doesn’t wince and say nothing bigger than a 20.

  10. Big Harold - Apr 16, 2010 at 8:37 PM

You know why that guy is paying with a hundred? Because he can. And, because here in the real world $100 bill are not like some mythical unicorn.
You really gotta stop with this working class hero BS.

  11. leokitty - Apr 16, 2010 at 10:06 PM

The guy paid with the $100 and had a $20 from a friend in case the vendor didn’t have change.
Sorry that a funny thing hurt your feelings QQ

In a city where a one bedroom apt. rents for about $4000/month and most folks need 4 roommates to survive, folks from elsewhere have no idea what it costs to live in NY. So $100 bills don’t go too far there. A hot dog and a beer is around $16ish. So heading to a concession for food for two is around $35-40. So maybe this is the first purchase this guy made.

Your not allowed in Yankee Stadium unless you have at least $300 on you. In addition to checking all your bags for safety, they check your wallet. If the Yankess do not see $300 total they will ban you from the Stadium because they want you to be suckers and spend at least that and more during 3 hours of entertainment.

Wonder if he knows that there ain’t no Coupe deVille hiding in the bottom of a Cracker Jack box?

    Dear World:
Craig Calcaterra hates the Yankees and their fans. Understand now? Good. Now that we all understand maybe Craig Calcaterra can move on and report about other fans and other teams in a nasty and unpleasant way. Imagine what it must say that a fan at Yankee Stadium had a 100 dollar bill. MY GOD this is the most important news of the day!
    Craig, get over yourself.

  16. Gnort - Apr 17, 2010 at 11:59 AM

What’s that about assumptions? Oh yeah. Ass out of you and me. Preferably you, but you already dragged all of us into this one.

  17. raffy - Apr 17, 2010 at 12:23 PM

I think its probably time to move on Craig.
We get it – you think Yankee fans suck.

  18. Josh in DC - Apr 17, 2010 at 3:46 PM

If you’re not a fan of Crunch ‘n Munch, you wouldn’t understand so STFU.
(Are Yankee fans not aware that everyone hates them? Is Craig breaking their hearts?)
