I need to find a copy of the unwritten rules. There are so many. No wonder kids don’t want to play baseball. All these good-ole-boys have made all these rules in their mind and have failed to write them down. I know most of them. But even some of them don’t make sense and vary depending on the type of game or the type of bat.

I only played baseball as a youngster, but this was an unwritten rule even as a kid. A-rod should have known better, or at least apologized if he forgot.

Right on, my friend. I am a die-hard Red Sox fan, and couldn’t agree with you more. The pitcher’s mound is sacred ground, and I am sorry, but A-Rod is low class. He knew exactly what he was doing.
The IRONY is all this is the BRADEN JUST PITCHED A PERFECT GAME against the Rays. So much for A-Rods assessment of Braden.
It’s too bad…I have loved the Yanks in thepast…when they had a real TEAM…O’Nell, and company in ‘While they have won their share since then, they have never been the same classy organization that we in Boston respect. A-Rod is a big part of that negative image.

The A’s are a .500 team, the Yankees are 21-8. Arod is the highest payed player and will probably be the home run king. Who is this guy Braden? we lost the game, how could it have ‘worked’?
A-rod just gets bushleague at times, that all there is to it. And even when called on it-he doesn’t relent and say ‘honest mistake’, he instead chooses to ridicule the dude’s experience. That’s our A-rod.
SIDENOTE: anyone else notice that the pitcher had to invoke Jeter’s name to bring home the point against Arod? LOL, its always a go-to. These two being on the same team has to be one of the weirdest decisions.

Maybe the only reasoning A-Rod had was to get between the ears of Braden. Based on the reaction from Braden, it worked. Any edge at this level is warranted. Since there is no “written rule” to A-Rods action there is nothing the umpires can do. The A’s could take action on the Yankees and let the Yankees be the “A-Rod police”. This will be fun to watch play out thru the rest of the season. That’s baseball!!

I love the guys sticking up for ARod.
- Screw an unwritten rule. He crosses the mound when just common sense says not to.
- yells at guys catching pop ups like he’s in the 4th grade.
- announces his free agency during the World Series.
- smacks balls out of 1st basemen’s gloves with his Hamburger Helper hands.
This guy always thinks he’s bigger than the game.
- Oh yea forgot that little steroid thing.
And Braden can bring that smack to the bronx. I’m from the Bronx. Nothing will happen in corporate Yankee Stadium anymore.

Good points. Of course, A-Rod must have had “dark reasoning” when he did the unthinkable – stepped on the pitcher’s mound. I think that deserves a suspension – anyone agree? Small-time pitcher with a small mind. If that set him off then he needs to get another occupation. Just wait until he has a real pressure situation to deal with – omg!

We all know there are games played during a game. This is simply a game in a game. No big deal, it seems A-Rod was just playing a game with the pitcher. Who knows if there is any old history. Any of you old athletes know what I am talking about… The only mistake Braden made was showing this action disturbed him.

This is not the first time Arod’s had problems with etiquette. I remember a few years ago he screamed at some third basemen on a pop-up as he was rounding 3rd and the guy dropped it. Also there was the first base glove slapping incident. He’s like your hyperactive annoying friend you are constantly apologizing for.
Oh and as a former player, it’s totally an unwritten rule.

I love how all of us Yankee fans are referred to as “Typical Yankee Fans”…and how we follow in a “Mindless slavelike devotion” as Mike R pointed out. That being said, let’s look at the severity of this occurance. Should ARod have run across the mound? Maybe not. Did he do it maliciously? I seriously doubt it. Did Braden overreact? Absolutely! To basically call someone out and threaten “Reprecussions” if it happens again is both amateurish and infantile. If the shoe had been on the other foot, and it was a Yankee pitcher flipping out about someone running over the mound, all these Braden “supporters” would be bashing the pitcher for doing what “The Evil Yankees” always do. It’s amazing how easy it is to hate on a successful team, and make them the devil all the time. Grow up people, and try taking off the “Yankee hater” glasses. If it had been between any two other teams, nobody would be giving the pitcher so much support. Get a grip.

Arod is not too bright and most of us don’t expect much from him in the etiquette department.After his “pop fly scream” incident in the past, it is clear that Arod has no sense or knowledge of baseball’s unwritten rules.There was also rules about using steroids and other chemicals that Arod didn’t abide by either. It just may be that Arod IS as stupid as he acts………

I’ve played,umpired,and watched baseball for about forty years and have never heard of this unwritten rule.It never even ocurred to me.However,upon thinking about it,I’ve never seen a player cross the pitcher’s mound when leaving the field.There must be a reason.It’s not worth flipping out about though.
