Mark McGwire takes "high road" on question about Canseco

Apr 24, 2010, 10:14 AM EDT

McGwire returns.jpgMark McGwire and the Cardinals made a stop in the Bay Area for this weekend’s series against the Giants, prompting the obvious rehashing of steroids and timelines, all of which he side-stepped for the most part. Feel free to read all of John Shea’s article from the San Francisco Chronicle if you are truly interested.

Perhaps the most interesting part of these write-ups was when he was asked if former “Bash Brother” Jose Canseco supplied him with steroids:

“I’ll take the high road on that,” said McGwire, refusing to answer but
later admitting he got the juice at a gym, where he said it was “readily
available.”

What, the A’s v. Cleveland didn’t top your list of Bay Area things-to-see last night?
Timmy didn’t have his best stuff, but incredibly managed to escape jam after jam by inducing an assortment of bad swings and weak at-bats by throwing the kind of junk that would have made Jamie Moyer shout “That’s my boy!”. Pujols, Holliday and Ludwick looked all geared up for the heat but Timmy kept them off balance with slow hooks up and in, getting Pujols to pop up in the 2nd after Schumaker had singled and Ludwick walked. Holliday then grounded into a DP.
Incredible 120 pitch performance in front of 43,000 bundled and shivering fans/tourists. They saw a pitcher last night, far removed from the thrower of only 3 years ago.

It is a good thing he took the high road, because as it turns out most of what Canseco said and wrote about actually seems to have happened. He got the steroids from a gym where they were readily available, that wasn’t his brothers gym by any chance was it?

    “bundled and shivering”
Wasn’t it Snuggie night? That Merlin Lincecum pic is awesome.
