Too much has been made of this in some quarters. Yes, this trade has not worked out the way it was supposed to for the Giants. And yet, they didn't give up anything significant for him, the pitcher traded no longer an elite prospect. And Uribe has stepped up nicely at 2B in his absence. The expense was not justified, but other than some money, it hasn't hurt SF. And what's a few million of other people's money?
