The Yankees will visit the White House this afternoon

Apr 26, 2010, 12:15 PM EST

It’s the only time Bombers are allowed there:

Jeter and his teammates will make the trip from Baltimore to Washington to visit wounded veterans Monday morning at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, then proceed to the White House to meet with President Obama Monday afternoon.

My understanding is that only those players who were on the championship team get to meet the president for these kinds of visits, and that those acquired during the offseason have to find something else to do. At the same time, those players who were on the team last year but who are no longer there do not get to make the trip for obvious logistical reasons.

Which means that even though I think the Yankees will win the World Series this year, Javy Vazquez will almost certainly not make the trip next year. At least if those screaming about him on talk radio today get their way.

    What about Damon and Matsui?

Matsui bombed Pearl Harbor, and Damon has a stupid haircut. Both disqualified.

    HA!!!

Why do these visits always happen 5 months after a team wins the championship? Wouldn’t it make more sense to do it in, say, January, so all the players from the championship team could be there?

Jonny5, the following is excerpted from the article, “At the same time, those players who were on the team last year but who are no longer there do not get to make the trip for obvious logistical reasons.”
Detroit and Anaheim both have games today.

Damon took that funny offer for less money in Detroit – Matsui (even though he bombed the bombers) does belong there. I wonder what sort of remarks Obama will have for the Yankees – after all he is a Chicago White Sox fan. Aah, just another perk for being the 2009 World Series Champions – I still like to hear that phrase as much as possible!

The steinbrenners are going to ask for luxury tax cuts. When do the Mets stop by to thank Obama for health care reform?
