News Flash: Andy Pettitte used to throw a knuckleball

Apr 27, 2010, 3:28 PM EDT

jorge posada headshot yankees.jpgNeat article at Yahoo! today as Jorge Posada goes back over his career and ranks the best pitches he has caught. Best fastball: Kyle Farnsworth or Scott Proctor, at least in terms of pure velocity. Best Curve: Hideki Irabu of all people. He goes on and on, and it’s a lot of fun.

The real news nugget from the article: Andy Pettitte threw a knuckleball once upon a time. Way back in the minors it was his two-strike pitch. His coaches told him to cut it out, however, and he forgot how to throw it.

After the Uecker health news, this is easily the most depressing thing I’ve heard all day.

Wow… a Joe Ausanio sighting. I remember him from the Pirates Minor League system when I was a kid. Haven’t thought about him for 20 years, I bet.
Oh yeah, great article on Posada, too… but, I mean, it’s Joe Ausanio. Takes me back to riding bikes in the summer, ice cream cones, and a competitive Pittsburgh Baseball Club.

Love The Onion article. True Yankees fans do not designate or discriminate. Blue and white. If you’re on the team we’re here with you.
Jorge loves Kyle cause he threw it straight down the middle at 100, easy to catch, or rather don’t have to be bothered with, it went the other way out of the park.
