Rays' Dioner Navarro suspended two games

Apr 27, 2010, 1:13 PM EDT

Dioner Navarro headshot.jpgThat’s what happens when you bump an ump, which is what Navarro did on Friday night. Navaro was apologetic after the game, admitting that he just lost his temper.  Baseball seems to have acknowledged that in the form of a very brief suspension, though there’s a fine too.

Navarro will really only have to miss one game for all practical purposes, seeing as how he’s a catcher and all and that the Rays can easily schedule a normal off-day for him.  Still, you can’t go into battle with one catcher, so they had to make a roster move: Reliever Mike Ekstrom was optioned to Durham  and catcher
Jose Lobaton recalled.

This will surely put a dent in this guys master plan. “I just want to do my job and get rich.”

As a Rays fan, wish it was 20 games – Navarro is just not that good right now. John Jaso is outplaying him in every aspect of the game. I’m not sure where the “get rich” jab is from Jonny5, Navi appear to be a decnt person, and I think anyone in MLB is wanting to “get rich” to some extent…and how is a 2 game suspension going to hurt him anymore than his overal poor play? The poor play is what’s going dent his “master plan”. But I think it might be generous to assume Navi has any “plan”.

Hey Ed, just quoting the guy. Click on his tag. Yeah, the little one in green under the post. Then you’ll see it. Ok, btw, it was just a jab.
