Dave Roberts has lymphoma

May 3, 2010, 4:14 PM EDT

Padres’ special assistant Dave Roberts — who is best known for his stolen base in the 2004 ALCS — has Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Roberts says the cancer was detected early and that the prognosis is good. He
has undergone two rounds of chemotherapy.

Good to hear that things seem optimistic as far as these things go. But as all doctor’s will tell you, keeping one’s spirits up is an important part of any medical treatment.  Accordingly, I hereby prescribe this, to be taken visually, three times a day.

Craig – Why is that every NY writer thinks Vasquez’s issues are mental? This article is asinine. Some how the AL makes Vasquez throw balls down the middle of the plate?

I will NEVER forget that wonderful moment in ’04 when you stole that base and effectively stole the series from the Yankees! It made the “1918” chant in the Big Apple a thing of the past!
Good health to you from one of your biggest fans… My prayers are coming your way 24/7!

Thoughts and prayers are with you …you’ll do GREAT…I know it…I’ve beaten it and you will to. All the best from Red Sox Nation and Manchester New Hampshire!!!

Everyone talks about the stolen base, but your television personality is very likeable and you seem to be a grounded all around nice guy. I know Dave Roberts will battle this with his strength and courage.
