Man all u guys are dumb.. 209 isnt just once city.. im from stockton but i played juco football in modesto.. 30 minutes apart.. and everyone i know from stockton is proud to be from stockton..i rep stockton everyday at the university im at in arkansas..stockton produces alot of pro athletes.. you guys who are talking bad about stockton but never there are ignorant.. the dude is just proud of where hes from and reps it.. stop hatin online.. talk that shit in the “209″ lol i put money up u wont.. ask Nick Diaz the UFC fighter where hes from.. I think the best thing in this article are all the comments about how some no-name pitcher should just shut up. I think it’s safe to say that he can talk now.
A-Rod showed some class today with his comments, though. That almost hurts to say, but it is true. And Dallas? Well, when you do something for only the 19th time in league history….you get more than ’15 minutes’. Good day for both of them.

Me too. I doubt some of these guys have ever been in a fight or been in a tough neighborhood. I was born in the South Bronx and went to school in the South Bronx and lived most of my life in the Bronx. That doesn’t make me tough.
What the heck, I wasn’t going to tell you, but some of y’all already know. The reason for the reaction is that some of the people, and I’d bet every single one of them is a liberal (don’t ask how I know), treat this as a B/W issue. They don’t want to admit that there are plenty of white people that grow up in bad neighborhoods. For some reason, it offends them when white guys are tough. Almost like they feel it is a right reserved for minorities.

Very funny stuff this morning.
Oscar: Stockton is indeed a tough place. A lot of the CA farm communities have gotten ugly with unemployment over 20% and immigration issues, poverty, etc.. Braden is from there, but still lives at home, commutes to the game every day in Oakland.
Gator and Jonny: I lived most of my life on the East Coast, including some time in FL. My guess is the MS-13 guys are toughest of all, but these NorCal gangs have more members. That said, did I mention Braden spends a lot of time working with the Stockton little league and the local high school team? Not just the occasional drop-in. He’s with the kids all the time.
Loren: He has toned down the gangsta thing. It was a survival mechanism coming from his less advantaged background. His catch phrase now, when talking to a group of Little Leaguers “There’s a big leaguer inside each one of you, waiting to come out”. I suppose that means each little guy should vociferously defend the mound, maybe not.
Keep in mind he’s still pretty young, and he reacts instinctively to perceived slights by the “big” boys, the way he’s done all his life. That said, you can do that and still be wrong. Most of the media here have moved past this issue, and are onto the blaming the A’s owners for the decline in fan attendance, as they should.

I’m obviously alone here, but I like Braden’s NoCal gangsta schtick, it’s funny. When he first came up I thought he was just a punk kid that looked and sounded ridiculous. Maybe he’s toned it down a bit or I’ve just gotten used to it, but it’s fun. It harkens back to the days of Rickey and Cansenco. As long as you don’t take it seriously he’s just an entertaining character. I’ll take this over, “I just want to give it my best shot, and the good Lord willing, things will work out.”
Did you know Braden writes 209 on his shoes? At some point he just becomes a cartoon character.
