Josh Beckett's start is getting bumped

May 10, 2010, 5:46 PM EDT

Josh Beckett headshot.jpgBeckett was slated to start this Wednesday against the Blue Jays, but the Sox are pushing him until Friday.  There’s nothing wrong with him, the team says, they just think he needs an extra side session and maybe a chill pill or something (note: they didn’t say chill pill). Either way, Beckett’s ERA is currently 7.46, so he could probably use a couple of extra days off.

Tim Wakefield
will take the Wednesday start instead.  He’s a knculeballer, of course, so he’s always prepared for anything.  I mean, they’re starting to recommend that you keep a knuckleballer in the trunk of your car for emergencies. They’re that useful.

As Rotoworld said, he’ll miss the NYY. He had a horrible game v the NYY last year, followed by two near-perfect outings, followed by getting hammered by them, and then two more weak efforts this year against them. It’s possible that they don’t want the EE to get inside his head.

The Yankees are his Daddy as Peedro once said .

    He’s a knculeballer, of course
Is that the knuckleball equivalent of a gyroball?
@aceshigh: Wakefield is like a Swiss Army Knife in the sense that he only has one blade, you never really know how sharp it’s going to be, it lasts for ever and it’s fun as hell to watch it in action.

    Ha ha…very nice.
I also meant in the sense that you can use him as a starter, a long-relief guy, a setup man, a closer (back in the day, anyway)…he’s just a solid, stand-up guy.
I know he’s sore about losing his rotation spot, but he’s not one to make a noise about such things. He’s a gamer for sure.

I can’t tell for sure whether “knculeballer” was a typo, but I say it’s brilliant, and we should adopt it. We can always leave the allegedly-correct spelling to blivets like Ringolsby.

Yup, no one does typos better than Craig. For most people, it’s nothing. With Craig, the typos all seem appropriate.
