Quote of the Day: Citi Field trash

May 11, 2010, 5:12 PM EST

“It’s sort of good now that there is debris to be blown out there. It shows people are spending some money and buying food
and drink and enjoying themselves.”

Dave Howard, Mets Executive Vice President for Business Operations when asked about all of the trash and debris that has been swirling around Citi Field lately.

I kinda like that answer, actually. It’s been windy. Trash happens. Why make some baloney noises about how “concerned we are” and about “studying the matter further” like so many P.R. people would probably advise?  Own your hot dog wrappers.

Since when does throwing trash on the field demostrate that people are “enjoying themselves”? It IS the Mutts after all. And the Mets as trash angle is just too easy.

What’s trash is the stadium itself – A senile old man’s ode to the Dodgers – Once past all the glories that are Dodger one is confronted with endless efforts to get you out of your seat and into the shopping mall – It’s so obvious that from the NY Mets point of view the absolute worst thing that could happen would be for you to sit in your seat and watch a game. Much more difficult to get their hands into your pants while you’re seated. The Telecasts of the games aren’t much better – Any excuse to cut away from the action on the field and go to some bogus interview or such out on the promenades or somewhere else where the action is at the cash register and not on the field.

Was anybody else hoping that this was about Paul Lo Duca’s girlfriends?

“What’s trash is the stadium itself”
Not a Mets fan or even a Citifield fan, but it’s a nice enough stadium, outside of waiting 1/2 hour to get in.
