The Braves to retire Brook Jacoby's number

May 11, 2010, 1:29 PM EDT

Well, he did have it first.

The team is being gracious enough, however, to include Tom Glavine in the ceremony this August 6th.  Glavine will also be inducted into the Braves’ Hall of Fame. Jacoby’s induction is apparently being delayed by politics and the usual kind of B.S. that tends to accompany these things.

In his honor, Glavine will almost certainly be called on to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, it will almost certainly be a foot into the lefthand batter’s box, and it will be almost certainly be called a strike.

    Jacoby had a rather remarkable stat. In 1987, he managed to play in 155 games, hit 32 HRs, batted .300, and managed to knock in only 69 runs.

    Two things to look up re: Jacoby’s ’87 season:
    1. Compare his numbers to Montreal’s Tim Wallach;
    2. Compare who was hitting ahead of both men.

    This will be the second time this year an Atlanta area sports team has retired Glavine’s jersey.

    Great last comment, Cubs playoffs not that they would have won anyway, but wow I did see pitches a foot off the plate called strikes.
