Bad back sends Josh Beckett to the disabled list

May 19, 2010, 4:04 PM EDT

After all the hubbub (and protest) surrounding his leaving last night’s game with a back injury, Josh Beckett was placed on the disabled list this afternoon.
Joe Nelson was called up from Triple-A to take his spot on the roster, but he’ll work out of the bullpen while Tim Wakefield slides back into the Red Sox’s constantly changing rotation. Beckett has just one win and a 7.29 ERA in eight starts and previously missed a turn in the rotation because of back spasms.
In other Red Sox pitching news, Jonathan Papelbon is unavailable out of the bullpen tonight after working three of the past four games.

Is this the reason Beckett hit a few Yankees a couple of weeks ago, and then came close and dusted up a few Yankees last night? He didn’t look to be in pain when his seething eyes stared out at Cervelli and sent him scurrying. I think he was just trying to do his best Roger Clemens’ imitation. Get better soon, Josh – the Yankees are waiting to face you again.

Wait, I saw no indication of a Beckett injury last night. Something fishy going on here…

    Hey Judy,
Honestly, if you knew anything about being a member of Red Sox Nation, you’d know it’s Josh’s obligation to send Yankee batters scurrying. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
Hope next time he takes A-Roid & Jerk-ter’s heads off.

So you are admitting that you don’t know jack about the Red Sox pitching and injuries of late? Go home.

every time that the Sox and yankees play it becomes a game of intimidation. These are the 2 best teams (usually) in the toughest division in baseball. As far as players getting hit… it happens, on both sides. Lets not pretend that the yankees or sox (depending on which team you favor) are angels and the other team is the spawn of satan. It’s baseball people just shut up and enjoy it.

Do you wonder why most baseball fans hate Boston & their fans ? it’s because alot of Boston fans are mentally challenged like you . I’ll bet you didn’t get to the eighth grade . Keep showing your ignorance on these post , it’s a good reflection on the so-called nation . Your a total jerk-off.

So you are admitting that you don’t know jack about sarcasm and protested games of late?
And thanks for the reminder to go home. It ain’t like I get overtime…

I’ll bet the Blosox can’t wait for Beckett and his seven plus era to return . The rest of the AL can’t wait either.
