Quote of the Day: Jon Heyman

May 21, 2010, 3:27 PM EDT

Royals GM Dayton Moore told MLB.com, “I’m not talking getting to
.500, I’m talking about winning the World Series when I say eight to 10
years.” Pirates fans must be wondering: Why is he in such a hurry?

I feel all kinds of sad reading this quote…

yeah doobie smokin’ heyman has his moments

such a hurry implies an agreement with Pirate ownership strategy. Something hinting at ‘jealousness’ would have been a better choice of words. That aside, +1 to Heyman.

Dayton, if you’re not talking about getting to .500, then what exactly is with the whole signing Jason Kendal and Rick Ankiel and all the rest of the old guys who currently make up your team? You say you want to win the World Series in ten years; ok, so how is Scott Podsednik gonna accomplish that for you? What other purpose could these players possibly serve than to push you towards some kind of possible short term semi-mediocrity? I mean, it just seems like you now realize that your original plan for the season was a ridiculous farce, and so you have to make up this 10-year plan BS to cover up what a ridiculous failure your actual plan was.
