Thanks HBT readers!

success demotivational.jpgI don’t mention this often enough, boys and girls, but you all are really great. May was a fabulous month for HardballTalk. We set our all-time record for traffic and tripled the clicks we had in May 2009 (back when the blog went by the name “The Quarrymen”).

We’ve got a lot of great stuff rolling out in the coming weeks and months. One of those things is a redesign of the joint which will help keep older content from getting buried like it currently does and will make our other NBC blogs more accessible for everyone.  Yes, some of you will moan about it at first because people have moaned about every redesign since the invention of the Internet, but I can assure you, this one will make the blog better.

Another change will be the addition of some video content featuring a pasty, bespectacled bald guy with a nasally Midwestern voice hating on all of your favorite teams. Sure, that will likely cause us to lose all of our traffic gains but it will hopefully be fun anyway.

But let’s be clear about something: everything we’ve been able to do with HardballTalk has been a function of one thing: you guys coming back and spending your free time and mouse clicks on us.

We realize you have a lot of choices when it comes to blog surfing, and we’d like to thank you for flying HardballTalk.

Hi CC – would you guys consider making the comments section more user friendly? In the Shyster days of yore, I loved getting notified of follow-up comments and not having to type in indecipherable anti-spam letters every time!
(Unless there’s a way to do that here already and my low tech mind is just slow…)
BTW amazing job every day – thank you

Just make sure to include transcripts of the videos. Some people don’t have hte option of streaming for various reasons.

  5. Ben - Jun 2, 2010 at 10:44 AM

Well it is a great site.

  6. Ben - Jun 2, 2010 at 10:45 AM

It is a great site. Would it be possible to do chats though with one of the redesigns? Cause that would be really cool.

  7. Al Gore - Jun 2, 2010 at 11:04 AM

Well if I knew people would complain so much about the Internet I never would have invented it.
Sorry, gotta run, Tiger and I are going out trolling for babes.
    Peace out – Algore

For the redesign, how about more explosions? Exploding graphics totally make a site. That, and liberal amounts of Drew Barrymore photos, please.

  9. Will - Jun 2, 2010 at 12:31 PM

I don’t have a problem with the recaptcha, it’s the best of the anti-spam gizmos I’ve seen. But I really would like a preview button for posts.

    Right backatcha Craig.
And in all honesty from one Midwesterner to another this is the BEST Baseblog on the web right now and it’s not even close (sorry Neyer and the Rest).
What seems to pass for writing about baseball now is simply Copy and Pasting someone else’s article while adding some witty repertoire like “Yeah, What he said!”.
Got pointed to this site by a jump from Bernie Miklasz about your comments about The Most Famous Hitting Coach EVER, the quote:
“The answer is that none of the people who have attacked McGwire for not fully coming clean really care about the information. They only want to traffic in outrage. It’s so much easier and so much more satisfying.” So right on.
And ever since then I have been amazed by your constant original, thoughtful insight and awesome sense of humor.
The comments about Swing Dancing and Poker the other day almost made me spit my coffee out.
    Anyway, keep it up Craig!
How about Interactive Box scores to accompany “And That Happened” so we can have one stop shopping for the Morning Scores with insight & jokes?
You know like one of those ye olde time paper thingies that used to fold out all weird and stuff…but with 21st Century snarkiness.

    Hi Craig-
I don’t comment that often, but I really enjoy this blog. I check it daily and read most everything that is posted. Your writing style is a pleasure to read; I think your law education has helped you greatly in writing thoughtful and persuasive articles. Keep up the good work! I also enjoy sorting through all the different comments from your regular readership. This is a great site.

As a fellow midwesterner (reppin’ tha 651), it’s great to read national baseball coverage without having to hear about the Yankees and Red Sox constantly. Even the posts about teams I don’t really care about are informative and entertaining. Thanks to all of the bloggers that make this possible, keep up the good work.

“some video content featuring a pasty, bespectacled bald guy with a nasally Midwestern voice…”
Posnanski is going to be doing video?!! Fantastic! Finally HBT is adding a real writer with some skills!
I kid I kid. You guys are great. Can’t wait to see the redesign.

You make me laugh at least once a day Craig, usually more. Thanks for the great site!

The Dept of Redundancy Dept is on line 2 for you Craig.

I’ve been following this blog since it was called “The New Originals.” I guess when the long-running blog “The Originals” went defunct you guys thought about changing it back but figured “What’s the point?”

  17. APBA Guy - Jun 2, 2010 at 2:05 PM

Any redesign that keeps the older content from getting buried is a very good thing. The ATH feature, my favorite, now only gets a few comments compared to the old Shysterball days, so bring on the redesign.
But don’t call it Long John and the Silver Beatles. Please.

  18. AdrianK - Jun 2, 2010 at 3:30 PM

Any chance of bringing Pete Best back?
