The cited article is, at best, ambiguous with regard to the start date of the 4-6 week timetable. Many have reported this information to mean that Penny will be out an additional 4-6 weeks, instead of 4-6 weeks from the date of his injury. The report, when taken in context with the rest of the article, seems to indicate the latter is the proper reading.
The ambiguity stems from the author’s use of “is.” “A club source indicated a more accurate time frame for Penny’s return is four to six weeks.” Earlier, the author quoted La Russa indicating that it would be “‘fortunate’ if Penny were to pitch during the home stand beginning June 14.” For those who don’t know, the 14th is just over 1 week away.
Based on La Russa’s statement, we should expect Penny to return to the mound 4-6 weeks from the date of his injury – NOT 4-6 weeks from the date of the article.

I wonder if you have personal info on Penny or if it all originates from the cited article. I read the article as suggesting that his total time line would be more accurately guessed at 4-6 weeks rather than the optimistic 3 weeks some had expressed early on. In that case, he’s out “at least” two more weeks and could be out up to a month. As a card’s fan, I obviously prefer my take on the article…
