Twins hitters want some tweaks to Target Field

Thumbnail image for target-field-100407.jpgThey’re not complaining about the dimensions or the wind patterns. They’re complaining about the glare. Hitting coach Joe Vavra:

“There’s a lot of light that reflects off that wall [beyond center
field], maybe because of all the glass. It has been borderline dangerous
at some points. You can see some of the catchers having trouble catching the ball,
and if the catcher can’t catch it, I don’t think you’re going to be able
to hit it.”

They’re also getting a lot of glare from the giant Twins logo with the two dudes shaking hands. Some of the suggestions to address it include netting and non-glare coating and stuff.  The team says it will work on it.

No park is perfect when it opens. There are always little tweaks.  This one, though, would seem like a safety issue.  There’s a reason parks have batter’s eyes out in center: so the batter can see the ball and not, you know, get cold-cocked with it.  If Target Field is distracting hitters and not allowing them to follow the ball all the way in, it’s a big problem.

NOTE: For the safety of our readers, I included a pic of Target Field on an overcast day. Can’t be too careful.

Let’s stop beating around the bush. What Twins hitters really want is a dome over the entire stadium, along with strategically placed Brobdingnagian air conditioning units that will create a powerful airflow towards the outfield seats.
Now, let’s wait until the next sub-freezing evening game and then ask the Twins’ fans what they want. This is the only stadium that sells pairs of Twins logo fur gloves at its concession stands.

To be fair the Twins have a dark green background for the batter’s eye in CF. That Twins logo is pretty high up and probably only comes into play when Jon Rauch is pitching*
*it probably doesn’t come into play then either.

They should cover it with some blue plastic baggie material.

The story never referenced the temperature, however it always goes back to that when Target Field comes up.
Regarding your Twins fur gloves piece-last time I checked the Twins gear wasn’t screaming off the shelves in Chicago, New York or Cleveland….

Of course not. That would be shivering with the enemy. Now if they overprinted the Twins logo with the Cubs’ “C”, Mr. Met…er, no, make that the Borg’s crossed “NY” or Chief Wahoo, you might see a spike in sales – come October in Chicago, November in Cleveland and December in New York.
reCaptcha: neurosis is. I have to go look that word up.

Well, he lives in Florida, he probably thinks 50F is too cold to be outdoors.
