What? If you cant make a call with instant replay you only have a 50 percent chance of getting it right live. As far as it being a problem making a call with instant replay all other sports that use it require there to be no doubts as to outcome of play, if there is any doubt the play cannot be overturned and the call on field stands. I agree with there being factors that make it hard but it is the same in most sports, boundy lines, goal planes, bobbled balls, etc. Ti be clear on subject im all for expanded replay but limited to keep time of games down. Reviewable plays just as an example for me would be first hits of game and all scoring plays and never the strike zone or check swings.

Or perhaps they realize that replay would be markedly less effective in baseball because of the numerous variables included in each play: feet of runner, feet of field, ball, glove, ball rattling in glove, etc.

Instant replay would only increase the time players have to stay on the field. No one would be any change to their job that would increase the time they have to work especially whan there is no increase in pay for it.

This is nice to see for his sake, even if there is probably a little over-compensating going on on the players' parts. But clearly he was well-thought of when that happened. As someone who umpired Little League when I was back in high school, I can vouch that it is extremely hard to get every call, game in and game out. It's not humanly possible, in fact.
Joyce's actions following the blown call brought honor to the game and to his profession. End of story.

The real story is not that Joyce received such high support, nor that the regular suspects were ranked so lowly (West, Bucknor, etc.)
No, the real story is that the players find themselves heavily against instant replay.
That's the real story here. Read more about this at <a / rel="nofollow">">http://baseballjeremiad.wordpress.com/2010/06/13/great-moments-in-selective-blogging/> the Baseball Jermiad .
