Pedro to the Phillies is not going to happen

Jun 17, 2010, 10:14 AM EDT

Ruben Amaro said again yesterday that the Phillies would be interested in Pedro Martinez if he’s interested in coming back, but it’s really unlikely to happen.  Why? Because according to Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly, Pedro wants too much money:

“I don’t think anything’s going to happen with the Phillies,” said [a person close to Pedro] indicating that Martinez is seeking significantly more
money than the Phillies want to play. “I just don’t think it’s going to
happen.”

I’m just trying to figure out what planet Pedro lives on that he thinks he’s worth anything approaching deal-breaker kind of money at this point.

It may be not so much that Pedro thinks he’s worth that much as he doesn’t feel it’s worth it to play for less. He’s obviously made plenty of money over the course of his career, and maybe he’s enjoying life enough out of of baseball that he’ll only play for a good chunk of money.

    Pedro , it’s over !
