Quote of the Day: Yankees President on Jeter and Rivera's contract status

Jun 29, 2010, 4:30 PM EDT

You'll be shocked to learn that the Yankees think Jeter and Rivera will be back with the Yankees next year.

“We don’t negotiate in public, but I would find it highly, highly
unlikely if both of them were not back with the Yankees. Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera are the Yankees.”

Yankees President Randy Levine, kinda negotiating in public with Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera over their next contracts.

Not that this is a big deal or anything. I mean really, are Jeter and Rivera honestly going to take that mild, subtle pressure from Levine as an invitation to start planning their futures with, like, the Rockies or the Angels or something?

Does anyone who knows a baseball from a kumquat think anything else would EVER happen?

Randy Levine is still a dbag, as he has proven time and time again.

To even think that Derek Jeter or Mariano Rivera would not be back with the Yankees in 2011 is complete lunacy. I cannot even imagine the uproar that would take place in NYC if Jeter and Mo were not brought back or were summarily dismissed by the Yanks. Afterall, you are not just talking about 2 of the “Core Four” your are talking about the leaders of several World Championship teams.
