I’m just glad the Bankees didn’t get Lee. And for all the people saying, “they’ll just get him next season” , Say’s who? Maybe another team will need pitching more than they do. I know the Bankees like throw out big contracts, but I don’t think they’ll over pay a guy “just because” If they really don’t need to. Someone else may need pitching desperately and pay for it.

I don’t disagree with you that the Yanks will eventually get Lee but you’re wrong if you think he’s nothing to fear in the postseason. So far Lee has owned the Yanks and the Rangers won’t be overusing him – they are walking away with the AL Worst and will probably win it just by finishing over .500. You’ll have to rely on the traditional Texas summer swoon or the laws of averages catching up on Lee for your prediction to pan out.

The Yankees didn’t get Cliff Lee. But if Texas does somehow make the playoffs & they have to play the Yankees, they will loose, as usual. And the Yankees will even beat Cliff Lee because Texas will have to over-use him just to get there. Then the Yankees will win the world series & sign Lee next winter. That is what The Yankees want & that is what they’ll get. Now learn to speak like an adult.

My question on this subject is how does a team which has filed for aid under chapter 7 laws able to take on another 1.5 million dollars? Is this more money we will end up paying for? Reminds me of 2001 when mlb paid the salaries of the Diamondbacks because they were so broke the could not pay even their office staff. Does it take an entire league to beat the yankees?

False. Everybody I’ve read who has ranked him in their top-five does so believing he won’t stick behind the plate. The bat is that good. The non-Yankee scouting world hasn’t believed he’ll stick for the past couple of years, and they still love him as a prospect.

A) The Yankees have a couple of catching prospects who will actually stay behind the plate. Montero is not Posada’s replacement. B) It’s not like the Yankees were absorbing a ton of salary here. They were offering up a top-5 prospect for Lee.

Ok, as a long-time Rangers fan, I felt the need to let everyone belittling this trade in on what’s really gone down… Smoak was the ONLY piece that was hard to let go of, but at this point in time Davis and Smoak are putting up fairly similar stats, so no HUGE loss there. As far as Beavan, Lueke and Lawson are concerned, the first two are MAYBE at best the No. 4 or 5 pitchers in the system. They kept Perez and Scheppers, who are their two best pitching prospects. Lawson, never heard of him… If you guys think that means they depleted their farm, then you have sverely underestimated their depth. Also, to give up one good player and essentially 3 jobber to get back 2.5 mil plus Lee and Lowe is a steal. This move only makes them better even if it is just til the end of the season.

This depends on which side you look at it from. Trader Jack could say the Yanks tried to pawn off damaged goods in the deal with Adams’ injury. The bad faith arguement goes both ways.
It seems entirely possible too that after the Rangers bankrupcy gets finalized in a few months and with Nolan Ryan’s leadership, that Arkansan Lee could very well decide Dallas is the place to be this winter.

Who cares if the M’s may have reneged on the deal. Not like Cliff Lee won’t be in pinstripes from 2011-2016, signing a 6 year, $120 milllion contract with NYY this December. Why give up prospects now when Cashman can sign Lee, like Craig mentioned earlier this morning. Besides, Cashman needs the kids next July to acquire a moveable contract.

The Yanks are upset because the Mariners told the Yankees the exact package they wanted for Lee, the Yankees agreed to their terms, and then the Mariners reneged on the deal. It’s equivalet to coming to terms with the salesman for a car, and then having him change the terms for no reason. It’s unprofessional and just bad business.

Can we all please remember that the Reigning World Champions also own the best record in baseball? And that there attempt to trade for a pitcher that they do not need led to the Rangers depleting their farm system? And that Lee won’t be enough to help the Rangers go all the way, and their future now looks just a bit more bleak? So yeah, the Rangers got Lee, but what did they really get?

Oh, please, Rafael Furcal’s agent took the faxed offer from the Braves & showed it to the Dodgers and told them if they matched then he’d stay.
Besides, has anyone told the Yankees that Posada isn’t 22 or do they really expect to purchase every all-star due to their monumental payroll?
