Looks like Youklis is having another solid year. Thing is with Konerko, being a White Sox fan and seeing him play every day, he’s been unbelievably valuable to the team this season. Not only are his offensive numbers right there in all categories but he has had a great year at first base. He’s saved the team several runs this year with many solid plays at first. I’m sure that’s hard to believe if you don’t see the W Sox mutch… but it is fact. He truly deserves to be on the team.
Maybe if the Yankee fans hadn’t voted in Swisher (You can easily make a case for Alex Rios over Swish) both Youk and Konerko would be there.
From a purely White Sox perspective though, Konerko was far more deserving than Matt Thorton who made it. Thorton is just plain nasty good but his numbers and contributions aren’t as solid as Konerko’s this season.

The simple solution is that if Boston fans wanted Youkilis in, all they had to do is vote for him more than they did. It’s not like this is a complicated system. It’s a popularity contest. Given that Boston has one of the largest fan bases in the country, it’s hard to take complaints seriously. If more people had voted for him, he would have gotten in. It really is that simple.

2) And don’t forget to blame Morneau for getting injured and making Girardi chose a replacement.
3) And let’s blame Selig for not stepping in and stopping this injustice.
4) And last but not least, let’s blame Ellsbury for hurting his ribs and not being on base for Youklis to have more RBI.

Wow, did all the White Sox fans just follow some link here? Or are they googling “konerko all star” and being shocked, shocked and appalled, that anyone would think the guy who’s carrying their team could possibly be worse than an overhyped guy whose numbers they’ve never seen?
OBP/SLG:
Youkilis: .408/.579
Konerko:.382/.560
And better defensively.
Though the real culprit, of course, is the NY fans who deluged the vote with Nick Swisher, at .382/.532.
I know the ASG is unimportant, it’s just a bit wrong that Youkilis was snubbed in short order by the fans for the inferior (but still good!) Nick Swisher then by Girardi for the inferior (but still good!) Paul Konerko.

On base percentage and slugging say he is. Most everything else does, too. He is. Youk tries to beat kids (Rick Porcello), so I’m not a personal fan of his, but he certainly deserves to be in the ASG over Konerko.

You don’t go from traditional counting stats to situational stats, which are among the most luck-dependent (although do count highly in terms of producing the various win-share metrics). You head toward linear weights, runs produced vs runs expected, etc.
I’m happy for Konerko. It’s probably his last hurrah. I just think the numbers are clear.

Once you parse all the numbers, Youks produces more runs than Konerko.
Youks has a clear slg and obp lead, Konerko a BA lead. He’s also hit a lot of HRs, but 75% in US Cell which has been playing as an extreme HR park (Fenway plays as an extreme doubles park).
Linear weights: Youks is +27 and Konerko +20, I think.
Konerko’s no slouch. Youks has just been better this year.
