Should the White Sox extend Ozzie Guillen's contract?

Jul 15, 2010, 2:14 PM EDT

Joe Cowley of the Sun-Times thinks so. If for no other reason than because he thinks the Marlins would be eager to snap up Guillen to manage the club when they move into their new ballpark in 2012 (Guillen’s contract runs through 2011).

You may recall that we talked about this last month when the Miami-based blog “City of Champions” reported that the biggest stumbling block to the Marlins hiring a new manager was that they were “infatuated” with Guillen and wanted to leave the door open to him coming there once his deal is up.

I’ve said it time and again: he’s kind of nuts, but I’d hire Ozzie Guillen as a manager in a heartbeat.  If that makes me think like Jeff Loria does, so be it. If I’m the White Sox, I lock up Guillen pretty soon.

Ozzie would work very well with the Macondo weltanschauung. He’s one of the few personalities whose arrival here would actually make this place measurably crazier. His is going to be remembered as the mouth within which was minted Pidgin Espanglish, and really, what denizen of the tropics wants to see Chicago get the credit for it? That would be unnatural.
Of course, Scrooge McLoria and the Chihuahua may be “infatuated” with Ozzie now, but how well a free spirited, strong-willed cocoloco like Ozzie would get along with the Ivanhoe of Impecuneity and his team’s politburo style of onfield management remains to be seen.

Ozzie speaks his mind too much for Loria’s liking.
Ozzie has to be one of the best managers in the league isn’t he? The Sox are never really out of it no matter how bad/old the roster is. He should go to the Brewers after they fire crappy Macha

As a Chicagoan, Guillen stays. We like crazy and we like effective. Ozzie is both. We also hate the Marlins and would do nothing to help those smelly jerks. Bartman is all the help they get! They can have Len and Bob if they want, how’s that?

That’s pretty funny. A Cubs fan hating the Feesh in their current condition is kinda like a cancer patient complaining about his allergy to poinciana pollen. And as far as being smelly, I guess it’s just a question of which smells worse – a feesh or a goat?
