Ruben Amaro tells the Philly Inquirer that, though he wants to pick up a pitcher before the deadline, he isn’t optimistic that he’s going to be able to:
Do we have to have another pitcher? No. Would I like to add some
pitching? Yeah. I think we need to get healthy. I think we’re getting
closer.”
Amaro notes that there were only two deals featuring starting pitching before last year’s deadline — Jarrod Washburn to the Tigers and Cliff Lee to Philly — and that he doesn’t expect there to be a lot of movement in pitching this year either.
Anyone for Roy Halladay on two-day’s rest for the remainder of the season? Because that would be cool.

If they aren’t worried about the long term investment he could probably pitch on 3 days rest for the rest of the season. If they’re willing to use him for 7IP a start instead of 9 he’d probably be okay.

Ruben, Ruben, Ruben…you really are poking a recently placated dog, aren’t you? We could’ve had a 1-2 Doc-Cliff punch, but no…you felt the need to reseed the farm–which is admirable on its face–but you got Round Up instead. Or, as it seems at this point, a bag of golf tees. Ugh….

Dave Bush is available. Dont look at his record. Look at his ERA and last few starts. He gets no run support at all.

No run support? He’d fit in well around here recently–just ask Doc.

Haren and the Dbacks will be in town right around the deadline. Just sayin’… Maybe Ruben can save some money on airfare…?
