Pitching porn tonight: Lincecum vs. Kershaw

Jul 20, 2010, 12:30 PM EDT

I’m probably going to be a bit drowsy tomorrow, because there’s a great pitching matchup tonight in Los Angeles: Tim Lincecum vs. Clayton Kershaw. When you’re a junkie like me you just can’t miss that kind of thing.

Lots of interesting stuff swirling around this one. The last start from each of these aces for one thing. Each had seven days rest, but Lincecum is the only one who looked it: he shut out the Mets in his best performance of the year. In contrast, Kershaw got slammed around by the Cardinals.  Another, and certainly more important angle to all of this is whether Kershaw can put his stopper pants on and arrest the Dodgers’ current slide which has them down to fourth place in the four-team race for the NL West crown.

Of course, every time I preview some great pitching matchup like this one guy ends up getting shelled and the other guy throws 104 pitches in five innings and the next hour and a half consists of increasingly anonymous relief pitchers.

But a boy can dream, can’t he?

What’s the matter Calcaterra ? You couldn’t conjure a better banner for this story than ” Pitching Porn Tonight . ” Here we are in the mist of a moral foundational breakdown in this country and you can’t find a better word to compare a sensational pitching matchup than ” Porn . ”
Somebodies 7 year old kid in this country is asking his dad , ” Dad what does porn mean . ” ? You are a contributor to smut metaphors because you can’t dial up a better word to describe the action .?
When you’re not doing straight baseball stories ( sort of like writing obituaries or a police log ) you’re slandering sports personalities or anybody else you can get your hooks into .
Look up these words in the dictionary and then you’ll understand your creative writing style . Let start with rational , spin , lie , twist , fib , rude , sass , and omit .
By the way , the pitching matchup tonight was a dud .

This is a crying shame . It’s all about baseball , right ? Here it is two days after this game and suspensions are flying as fast as U.F.O .’s skirting Wolverton Mountain . Clayton Kershaw , you are my hero , You learned your lesson well in Dodger Blue , if the other team throws at your guys you throw back high and tight .
