Bobby Jenks is probably out as the White Sox closer

Jul 22, 2010, 10:20 AM EDT

At least as the team’s lone closer, and at least for now.  Ozzie Guillen didn’t like what he saw in Seattle last night, when Jenks blew a save in his second bad outing in three games:

”I got three guys there that can [close games]. I’ve
got Thornton, I’ve got Putz throwing the ball good. Even Santos is throwing the ball good. Hopefully, we’ll put Bobby
back in those situations when we see him throwing the ball the way we
know he can throw it.”

Guillen is right about having other options, especially Putz and Thornton, who have been among the best relievers in baseball this year.  Still, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Guillen has lost patience with Jenks, yet he has returned to the closer’s role fairly quickly in the past.

Good move. This is more than just 2 bad games. His ERA is over 5 and his WHIP is horrendous.
