Carlos Zambrano throws scoreless inning at Triple-A … with some help

Jul 23, 2010, 3:48 PM EDT

Carlos Zambrano threw a scoreless seventh inning last night in his first appearance at Triple-A, although Dave van Dyck of the Chicago Tribune notes that he “did allow a pair of singles and also was saved a run by a spectacular back-against-the-wall catch by center fielder Sam Fuld.”
Zambrano threw 10 of 15 pitches for strikes, but reportedly topped out at 91 miles per hour with his fastball. Even assuming no further “anger management” issues he’s not expected to rejoin the Cubs until next month and will be used as a reliever once he does return.
