Allow us to channel our inner ProBasketballTalk here for a second.  (By the way, check those guys out if you’re an NBA fan.  They kill it.)

According to the Associated Press, a fan wearing a spanking-new Miami Heat jersey of Lebron James was harassed by the fans at the Cleveland Indians’ Progressive Field on Wednesday night.

Indians fans (and Cavs fans, presumably) chanted obscenities at the man until he had to be led out by stadium security.  Some fans even followed him all the way to the exit gate.

The city of Cleveland is a little peeved at this man James, who abandoned his home town and a loyal fan base to “take his talents to South Beach” earlier this month in a one-hour special on ESPN called “The Decision.”  And they should be pissed off.  That was a ridiculous and horribly misguided show of classlessness.

Now about that fan wearing the jersey.  Was he just looking for attention or was he simply expressing his love for LeBron?  Did he deserve the chants?  Does anybody want to send me a new No. 6 Heat uni?

I think you’re kind of an ass if you wear other sports’ gear to a baseball game regardless. But on this level, the dude was either really asking for it or really oblivious.

  2. Buccofan - Jul 29, 2010 at 12:18 AM

I’m sure the Heat, the NBA legal staff, or The Troll Himself (Stern) would be up in arms, but I think there’s a lot of money to be made by selling James’ Miami jersey with the number 666.

the guy knew what he was doing and will probably sue the indians tom. for emotional duress or some other ridiculous claim.

  4. Ladytiger72 - Jul 29, 2010 at 12:39 AM

There was only one reason that “fan” wore that jersey-he wanted to get a reaction and he did. Having said that, the Cleveland fans should have just ignored him and not given him what the attendtion he wanted. The fact is he can wear whatever he wants including the Miami Heat jersey.

This guy is not playing with a full deck. He’s lucky he didnt’ get beaten up and stuffed in a garbage can.

  6. Sweepthleg - Jul 29, 2010 at 12:58 AM

I personally cant wait to make fun of all the bandwagoner heat fans that will start popping up. Wearing heat gear for the next 5 years should qualify you as an insta-douche.

  7. walk - Jul 29, 2010 at 1:41 AM

That man should be thanked by indians management. They can trot out lowest payroll team in next few years if they want and distract their fans with a lebron jersey. I cant wait to see how lebron streakers get treated. Live ammo im guessing or a k-9

Just more proof LeBron did the right thing by leaving such a 2nd rate town full of CRYBABIES. Hey Cleveland, we kicked your ass in the ’97 World Series too. Deal with it. You guys are a bunch of whiners. You should be kissing LeBron James’ ASS for putting your sorry basketball team on the map. Your crybaby owner is a perfect fit for your town. Go take a swim in Lake Erie and leave the sports for the real fans. And have fun booing LeBron James jerseys like a bunch of children, while looking UP at the Heat and dreaming of what your team COULD HAVE been. You know, maybe LeBron wanted to play for an owner and fans with class. And if wearing Heat gear makes someone an insta-douche, then wearing Cavs’ gear makes someone an insta-LOSER. You guys can’t even get the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame right. Madonna? Please!

Your gay, and Miami is a Schit hole.

  10. Bucknut - Jul 29, 2010 at 7:39 AM

Brian – you have to understand that SouthFlorida is a front-running douche. If it was the other way around and Wade left Miami he’d be crying, whining and hating on him. Instead he gets what he wants for once and feels the need to rub it in everyone’s face. I think his problem is that everyone outside of Miami (and all their new bandwagon fans) think LeQuitter and his shameless self-promotion on ESPN was classless whether they were in the running in landing him or not.

  11. Grumpy Old Man - Jul 29, 2010 at 7:40 AM

I can understand that he is still a fan of Labron James – more power to him.
Gotta question his smarts though – what kind of a moron would wear a Miami Heat LBJ shirt anywhere in cleveland? The guy is either a flippin moron or a sadist.

  12. Bucknut - Jul 29, 2010 at 7:41 AM

Oh, and one more thing. You’re right. He is gay and Miami is a shit-hole.

  13. tdawg69 - Jul 29, 2010 at 7:56 AM

Reals fans? Are you freakin kidding, SouthFlorida?? You may have won the 97 World Series (barely though, not the ass kicking you say) but at least the games played in Cleveland were sold out! You front running Miami fans are all the same. How many empty seats are there at the Marlins games these days?
Effing loser, go back to the beach and shut the eff up.

  14. jojomama - Jul 29, 2010 at 7:58 AM

I thought Cleveland was a little classier. The guy was neither a masochist or a moron. He was an attention seeking whore and wearing the jersey got the reaction that he wanted to evoke. The fans should have just ignored him. Instead, they gave him what he wanted–media attention and a great story to tell his buddies.

  15. djeg07 - Jul 29, 2010 at 8:28 AM

at least it wasnt at oakland stadium with raiders fan, they wouldve beat him up, and pissed all over him an his new jersey….what an idiot.

  16. quickquencher - Jul 29, 2010 at 8:39 AM

WOW What a big surprise that he got this reaction from a bunch of low life trash that is Ohio! He has a right to wear what he wants! I I totally don’t blame Lebron James for wanting to leave such a hatefull backward low life city!

  17. quickquencher - Jul 29, 2010 at 8:42 AM

yeah maybe but the whole state if Ohio smells like a shit hole!

  18. Old Gator - Jul 29, 2010 at 9:34 AM

That’s because you haven’t spent enough time in Cleveland. Still, aside from contemplating the sheer imbecility of a coulture (I couldn’t quite bring myself to say “civilization”) that invests so much negative emotion in a professional athelete, whoever he is and whoever he plays for, isn’t it nice to know that Felliedelfia isn’t the only city in America that can fill an entire stadium with thugs and lowlives?
    .
And by the way, there are plenty of Macondo fans who think LeBron handled his decision like a jerk, and not a few of us who also think “Los Tres Grandes” are going to be tripping all over each other in their unwillingness to give up the ball. I wouldn’t want to be Pat Riley’s hairstylist this season.

  19. josh - Jul 29, 2010 at 9:45 AM

Clearly seeking attention. Nonetheless, its clearly wrong to chant “asshole” over and over at a guy for something he is wearing. What’s wrong with people that they think that is acceptable?

  20. Monk - Jul 29, 2010 at 9:54 AM

I think it’s ridiculous a guy can’t wear whatever jersey he wants to a game! What if this was a six year old kid who just still loves Lebron James? And he gets escorted out? How long before it is OK to wear a Lebron Heat jersey? But I do agree this guy was looking for attention…you can see that in the picture!

  21. JunkYardDawg1156 - Jul 29, 2010 at 10:05 AM

He should be glad he doesn’t live in & tried that shit in Philly. Show up in Philly, whether it’s the Linc or Citizens Bank Park with a controversial jersey or shirt on, see what happens. That guy would be lucky to make it out alive.

  22. Old Gator - Jul 29, 2010 at 10:17 AM

What’s wrong with them is that (a) they’re stupid; (b) they’re simpletons who buy mindlessly into hype and group-think because they’re too dim to think for themselves; (c) they never read The Ox-Bow Incident or, if they did, they were too peawitted to assimilate it.

  23. Reality Hurts - Jul 29, 2010 at 10:17 AM

The amusing thing is there were literally, MORE PEOPLE CHEERING FOR THE YANKEES and had on YANKEES jerseys than there were Indians Fan at that game.
Cleveland fans are complete and total idiots.
