It appears that the Phillies are scouting Toronto, however the fans and the two main newspapers in Toronto are against trading Bautista. Encarnation is another matter. He would be cheaper than Bautista and becomes a free agent at the end of the season. His hitting has improved a lot since being recalled from the minors and his throwing is also much improved. I can easily see Encarnacion being traded to Philadelphia for a mid level prospect from Single A. Encarnation has been a very solid player this month.

Cowboy Junkies are playing at home on November 19. Bautista ought to take Escobar to that show. Now that'll help adjust him to Toronto.

Hi Doug! A screen name like that can only be you. I am great. I hope that you and your family are well. Bautista hit another home run tonight. There is no desire in Toronto to trade him. He has even been asked to take on a team leadership role and help Escobar adapt to Toronto.

Can I just say that I find this format to be less than ideal? I have to read through every player to see if anything has changed. Can we highlight the new information somehow, or maybe just move the guy to the top. I appreciate knowing that Roy Oswalt is the “#1″ player on the trade tracker, but if nothing has changed, I don’t need to see his name listed first.

Werth’s numbers are inflated because he had a hot first month. Take that month out, then compare to last year.

Uh, no it wasn’t. No players involved in the Lee trade were used to get Halladay. Even the Phillies’ official line is that Lee was dealt to replentish the farm system after dealing everyone away for Halladay. Unofficially, it was to save money. Either way, it was possible to have both of them; it was the Phillies’ decision to tie the two together.

How is Jayson Werth in the middle of a disappointing year? He had an 879 OPS last year, and this year it’s….870. He hasn’t hit as many homers, but he’s made up for it by hitting a shitload of doubles. The ISO is down by .020 but the BA is up by nearly the same.
Disappointing would have been a sub 800 OPS season. This is nearly identical to last year. He’s having a great season.

That Alexander is a scrapper and a fighter. He’s an innings eater. He’s a leader in the clubhouse and is great for team chemistry. He’ll mentor young arms and be worth a couple of wins with just his never say die attitude.
That Smoltz kid should stick to golf.
The Mets are preparing a four year 40 million dollar offer to Alexander based on advice they got from the Knicks on how to build a successful team in New York.

I think the Tigers should trade for Doyle Alexander. They have that kid John Smoltz in their system and I think he is a bust.

Big drop off after the top five, and even they are not the greatest from a price and risk standpoint. Texas getting Lee was the biog one.

Word. Junior talked heavy on the future of the Phils as he gave it away. Not talking to Cliff Lee showed his ignorance as a GM. All-in-All, Blue Jays got the last laugh. Next we will be hearing he inherited the problems of the 2011 Phillies. As every team in the NL East improved during Spring training, he patted himself on the back. Just plain ignorance!

Texas is fighting for a playoff spot; Toronto isn’t and most likely won’t for awhile. Makes more sense to move a guy whose value is the highest it’ll ever be before he reverts to his norm.

I don’t find it sickening, nor am I outraged. But then again, I’m not a Fightins fan. As an outsider, though, I have to admit that I find it astoundingly stupid. Of course, I thought that in December too. And what makes it even more stupid is that the reasoning given at the time is that they weren’t going to be able to pay both Halladay and Lee – yet now, all of a sudden they can pay both Halladay and the more-expensive-than-Lee Oswalt?

Once Bautista began to get regular playing time, he has been very productive. He hit 10 home runs last September, so his production this season is not much of a surprise to anyone who saw him play last September. He is underpaid and does not have an expiring contract. The most comparable player to him is Nelson Cruz, and I see nobody calling on Texas to sell high on Cruz.

The Jays have reason if someone wants to overpay. Bautisa is playing over his head. He is a useful player with some versatility so the Jays should only move him if the price is right. I think he ends up staying put. As for the others, if the prospects being offered are equal in value to the one or two draft picks the player would provide after the season, they should make the trade(s).
Berkman should back off on the requirement that a team pick up his opton. Houston won’t pick it up so neither should anyone else, meaning he is going to be a free agent at season’s end no matter what. It’s up to him if he thinks he can improve his value finishing out a losing season with the Astros or contributing to a contender in the final two months. The latter makes sense to me.

Does anyone else find it truly sickening that the Phillies are in the market for a starting pitcher, when they had Cliff Lee and gave him away for pennies? Where is the Ruben Amaro outrage? Am I the only one thinking he has killed this team? This team is full of draft picks made by Mike Arbuckle and Ed Wade. His moves have been giving Ibanez, Moyer, and Blanton WAY too much money and giving Cliff Lee away for nothing. Sure, he made Halladay deal, but we gave up a ton of prospects, gave Halladay a ton of money and Halladay wanted to come here. I could have made that trade. Amaro f’d this team up so bad, we have to give away Werth to get the prospects it will take to get Oswalt. Huh? What about the prospects we got in the Cliff Lee deal??? Jesus it makes me sick to think about it.

Don’t believe everything you read. It’s silly season again among reporters. The Jays have no reason to trade Bautista. They could trade Downs, Frasor, Buck and Overbay as they are on expiring contracts and long term replacements are available in the minor league system.
