Hard to fathom who the critics think will be disappointed that the team, currently in the midst of a reheating divisional race against the very team they're in the Tampa area to play, failed to show up for these funerals. The dearly departed? I don't think so, somehow, unless Tom Spousta was having a nice game of ouija scrabble with The Boss the other night and transcribed his disaffection firsthand. The family? Well, seeing as they own the team in the first place, I think it's reasonable to assume that if they thought it was important that the guys take off from batting and fielding practice and reviewing videos of the Rays' pitching staff, they would have organized a little bus trip over to the cemetary. Apparently, though, the Steinbrenners don't have their heads planted nearly as far up their asses as Spousta does.

Nah, probably some stringer. Then a big-time reporter with NYT credentials will fly into Tampa, stay for dinner, fly back, and put his/her/its name as the byline. At least, that's how a lot of Times stories have been done.
