For people saying that there is no pennant race or that the Yankees have a playoff spot secured or that there’s no reason to even consider otherwise–there are still two months to go. It’s August 4th. A 5.5 game WC lead, while nice, is far from a guaranteed playoff ticket given how much time is remaining, and given the current shakiness of the Yankee rotation. At this point, which Yankee starters are really trustworthy outside of Sabathia? Burnett is still trick or treat, Hughes is inconsistent, Pettitte is hurt. Really, Vazquez is probably the second most dependable starter right now, and he’s still Javier Vazquez.
So yes, 5.5 games is a fine lead, but it’s far from insurmountable, not when you have two months to go and a ton of interdivisional games in the toughest division in baseball. I know people hate hearing Yankee fans freak out, but don’t tell me that they have something locked up on August 4th when they don’t.

1) Yankees are still on pace to win 100+ games, reversion to the mean is a real thing, losses happen.
2) It’s hard to call it a “race” when it’s the first week of August and the Yankees are still on the inside track for a playoff spot.
3) “Your” vs. “you’re” is an important grammatical concept that is useful to know for day-to-day situations.

You are 5.5 games up in the wild card race, which is really all that matters…it actually may HELP YOU to win the Wild Card because wouldn’t you rather start with the Rangers over the White Sox???
