How many men have played baseball? The Babe had more hits than all but 38 of them. Now Jeter passed him. Anyone else does it, the team mentions it. It just might not make the national news.

I'm with Craig. Passing Babe Ruth in hits is like passing him in doubles. It's not really what the Babe was famous for, and this is just a non-story. It's definitely because they're both Yankees; if Pudge passes Ruth next year, I guarantee there won't be a big deal made of it.
Jeter moved from 40th to 39th. Are we going to celebrate when he passes Zack Wheat for sole possession of 36th? Celebrate when he hits 3000, probably next year, or if he's still going strong 2 or 3 years from now and moves into the top 10. Until then: nothing to see here, folks.

Craig - are there any active players ahead of Jeter on the all-time hits list?
Are there any other hitters breaking through the top 40 all-time hitters?
Are there any other Jeters?
If he were a Philly or a Brave or a Met passing the Babe, it would get mentioned. Don't be a hater.
