Report: Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu, multiple coaches have been fired

Aug 9, 2010, 3:08 PM EDT

ESPN 710 in Seattle is reporting that the Mariners have fired manager Don Wakamatsu.  Additional sources are reporting that bench coach Ty van Burkleo and pitching coach Rick Adair have been let go as well.

Jon Paul Morosi just reported that AAA manager Daren Brown has been promoted and will be the Mariners interim manager. Brown is now the fifth different man to manage the team in the past four seasons.

It’s been a miserable year in Seattle, with both an underperforming team and multiple instances of clubhouse strife and reports of battles between the coaching staff and the front office. A mere five days ago Wakamatsu was given a vote of confidence. I was apparently correct in thinking that it was “dreaded.”

    Wha ta freaking mess!

Here’s to more years of irrelevance! Obviously, this year has sucked, but far from the staff’s fault entirely. Where’s the belief system now?

Wakamatsu was the A’s bench coach 2 years ago, and van Burkleo was the hitting coach. Sad, but not surprising.

What this means for the organization:
Too soon to know what it means for the organization?

Too soon to know what it means for the organization?

Means that this organization still can’t get it’s crap together and that last year was just a hiatus from the idiocy of the Bavasi era.

Wakamatsu was not to blame for them not picking up a couple of bats. He may have been to blame for the Figgins and Griffey debacles, I don’t know. But their overall performance is purely Jack’s fault.
As for Rick Adair, they basically have a top five pitching staff, so I have no idea why Adair had to take the fall. Pitching has never been the problem…

At least he goes out on a win…

Calling them an organization is an insult to organizations everywhere. They’re more of an amalgam of space-wasting incompetent stuffed-suits.

He should have never screwed over Griffey

Thier bullpen sucks, the team hits for what, a 210 average? They don’t know how to retire the best player they ever had. Other than that, I don’t see anything wrong.

I am in Baltimore. The Mariners are like the Orioles. The players, General Manager and owner suck, so they fire the Manager. The only way it could be worse is if they hired Obama to manage (but first he would have to show a birth certificate)>

that must explain the Orioles situation this season – G.W. Bush is secretly managing them>
